San Francisco City Hall often has musicians on the first, lower landing of the grand staircase in the Rotunda. Rules and Regulations are plentiful including acoustic challenges. But for some ensembles it can work well. Corporate Clients often have themed events. Last Friday at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto was one such occasion with a Beatles, 1960's theme. My music agency was asked to provide a solo trombone player to lead guests from one area to the next. Bad idea. Several phone calls later we served them with a 5 piece marching Brass Band playing excerpts from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Costuming was provided! Guests and client thrilled beyond expectations.

What is meant by Music Character. At its most basic level beyond style, genre, historic period, function or instruments used are two words: consonance & dissonance. These two features of every kind of music determines our emotional reaction to it, feelings which are modulated throughout the composition.
