MYTH: Trophy hunting is pushing species to extinction

Our elk visitor was picked up by Mr. Greg Buckler who took this North American elk with a bow at 10 yards as it came right at him, in Arizona in September of 2019. Thanks to Mr. Buckler for sharing this gorgeous elk with us today and getting it measured for the books. The measurements come in at 338 2/8. Be on the lookout for the next Rowland Ward's Records of Big Game North American due out in 2023 to see where this elk places in the record book.

We had a special visitor at the Rowland Ward offices today. These elk antlers are being measured by Ludo Wurfbain assisted by Carrie Zrelak. What a treat to see these magnificent antlers and to see the measuring process in person.

Northern Cape Professional Hunting School’s recently finished the first class of 2020 and all students took a Rowland Ward measuring course and exam as part of the curriculum. NCPHS proprietor Mynhard Herholdt reports We finished our first Rowland Ward course and we are satisfied with the outcomes. We can surely make it better in future but for a first course, it is satisfactory.... We made the standard very high and the Pass Mark was 80 percent. About 70 percent of the students made it on the first examination. On their second exam, all but one student made it. The practical examinations took an average of 1 hour per student. It takes a lot of time and the maximum students per course in the future will be 12. Repetition and Repetition and small groups are the answer to good outcomes. We will start registering the students in 2 weeks’ time as official Rowland Ward measures.
