She recently received necessary tools after attending a food processing training by Roots of Peace's Community-Based Agriculture and Rural Development project. In November 2020, Community-Based Agriculture and Rural DevelopmentAccess to International Market project sponsored a visit of Afghan traders to Tashkent and Samarkand in #Uzbekistan where they met with fruit and vegetable traders and wholesalers, which pave the way for an initial shipment of oranges from Nangarhar to Uzbekistan. Fruit and vegetables are being exported from Afghanistan despite COVID-19 restrictions. Between October and December 2020, Community-Based Agriculture and Rural Development project, jointly implemented by Roots of Peace and United Nations Development Programme in Afghanistan, facilitated the exports of 1,872 metric tons of cucumbers, pomegranates and sesame seeds from Badghis, Farah and Nangarhar provinces to Turkey, India, the UAE, and Pakistan with the total value of nearly USD 700,000. Roots of Peace trained around 80 women in jam and pickle processing as well as in packaging, labeling and marketing their products in Farah and Nangarhar provinces of Afghanistan in December 2020. Upon completing the training, each woman entrepreneur received processing equipment that will help them increase their production capacity and begin selling their products in local markets. Woman-owned Aloe Vera Durukhshan agribusiness firm in Kabul signed a contract to purchase 8 metric tons of aloe vera from farmers in Badghis and Farah provinces of Afghanistan.
