UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS SUNDAY SCRAMBLE SEPTEMBER 20 at 3:00pm... $15 to walk, $20 to ride includes golf, tournament prize fund and a drink of you choice. We have room for about 10 more players, so call to sign up individually, with a friend of if you have a team you want to enter. 2020 MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP Our 2020 Match Play tournament begins October 1st. We will have both men’s and women’s flights with our winners' names being displayed on our perpetual plaque in the pro shop. Cost to enter is $10 with all proceeds being paid back to the top finishers in each flight, number depending on how many entries there are. In match play, you will be paired with an opponent for a hole-by-hole match to be played within 3 weeks of the start date. You will give or receive strokes depending on your handicap and that of your opponent. You then play your match with the person winning the most holes winning the match. Final total score does not matter. For example, you win the first hole with a 4 to your opponent’s 5. You are one hole ahead. On the second hole, you have a 7 and your opponent has a 3. You are now even in the match. The match is over when one player is ahead by more holes than there are remaining (for example, after 16 holes, you are ahead by 3 holesthe match is over). In match play, you may give putts or concede a hole (for example, your opponent hits her tee shot 6 feet from the hole on the first hole. You pump two balls out of bounds across the road. You need not play out the hole. You can concede it to your opponent and move on to the next hole. Match play is the format used in the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, US Amateur, etc., so you may be familiar with it. This tournament is open to ROGC regulars with established River Oaks handicaps (at least 5 18-hole scores turned in). Entry fee is $10. We will pay first, second and possibly more places depending on the number of players in each flight. There are some rules that are unique to match play. For example significant rules violations (like hitting the wrong ball) are penalized by loss of hole rather than with a two stroke penalty. You will receive more details on rules for match play before the matches begin. Call the Clubhouse today to sign up!

ANOTHER ONE? Last Saturday, Dave Hovde made his third hole-in-one, all at River oaks and all in the past three years. For this one, Dave hit a nice little 8 iron from the 9th tee to a front flagstick location. Most golfers never have an ace, so this is quite a feat!

MENS & WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIPS Our annual Mens & Womens Championships are underway. It is a 2-round event. Round one must be played during the month of June. You may play any time you want, but must be with another competitor or a member of the Pro Shop staff. Round 2 will be played between July 1 & July 15. Again, you may play any time you want, but we will try to pair you with other competitors with similar scores based on round 1.... Scoring method is Stableford. You will complete your scorecard as normal, with your gross score on each hole being recorded. We will convert your score to Stableford Points. Play is according to the rules of golf (yes we putt everything out at River Oaks) with two exceptions. If you are in a footprint or poorly raked area of the bunker, you may fix the area where your ball is and place it, giving yourself a good lie. This does not apply to a ball plugged in its own pitch mark. You may also move your ball 6 inches on the green, no closer to the hole, if there is a repaired area in your putting line. Our low gross man and woman will be our Club Champions. Lot net man and woman will be our Net Club Champions. Entry fee is $20 with all money going back to the competitors, paying approximately 1/3 of the field. Prize money will be distributed to low gross player, low net player and 2nd net, 3rd net, etc. depending on number of entries. Call or come by the pro shop to sign up of if you have questions.
