Last night we gathered together. Our new normal; church at home on Sundays. Three couldn’t make it, and it was just seven of us. ... I will admit: I often wonder if we should be persistent in inviting people, but we aren’t. We are trusting the Holy Spirit to grow what we are planting. We are simply and faithfully gathering, allowing God do what He wants to. As we sat around the table, we shared testimonies of how God has shown up in our lives and changed our course. It was a night of giving praise and thanks as we broke bread together, and celebrated my husbands birthday. It was quiet for a moment and then one opened his heart and shared. He normally sits and listens, but last night he felt safe in our small, family group. It was beautiful. This morning as I sit here by my fireplace, reflecting on last night, I’m reminded of a scripture that my heart holds closely: Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin Zechariah 4:10 (a) We can so easily get caught up in numbers to determine growth, but God doesn’t measure the way our culture does. God measures growth by the heart of the individual. He’s way more interested in what’s going on in us, and through us. These small beginnings are precious to Him, and to us too.
