Bomb Threat Earlier this evening, around 6pm, Rio Vista Farms received a phone call threatening that a bomb inside the business was going to explode. The management immediately evacuated their business. Managers searched the grounds for any suspicious devices and did not locate any. They called 911 and let their employees return to their work. After arriving, officers also searched the area and did not locate anything suspicious. A Solano County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Det...ection expert and his canine partner were called to assist and assess. Since there was no threat located, officers turned their attention to the caller. We were able to identify the phone number and possibly the caller. The case remains under active investigation and charges of a bomb threat may be facing the suspect. I am grateful to Rio Vista Farms for their community partnership and cooperation with our department. Officers were familiar with the building layout and their evacuation procedures. Having this information ahead of time can be critical, though we were all lucky this time.

DID YOU KNOW...? This marks the first installment of what we hope will be a weekly segment of lesser known, obscure and sometimes stranger than life laws and ordinances. Sometimes it will be more educational, and other times it will be meant to simply be fun to talk about. Please know that whatever the highlight is, does not mean this is any kind of precursor to an increase in enforcement of any of these laws. This is meant to be fun and informational so there is no nee...d to report your neighbors in this forum. With that being said DID YOU KNOW that you cannot grow marijuana outdoors in Rio Vista? Chapter 17.70 of the city municipal code regulates cannabis in the city of Rio Vista. Growing cannabis outdoors in the open air is prohibited. You are allowed to grow as many as six plants indoors or outside in a secure greenhouse. This is assuming you have registered with the city as an authorized grower. There are several other sections of regulations and if you already do or want to grow your own personal cannabis, you should be aware of these. If you can think of future topics, please post them in the comments!

Please drive slowly in the River Road area near North Front Street. There are crews working to remove the large, overgrown oleanders on the north side of the road. The overgrowth has caused safety concerns over fires as well as past flooding problems. This removal will allow crews to hopefully address this issue. This work is for today only. There are several transients who have been living in those oleanders. Police Officers have been in touch with every one of them for over a week about this work being done. Officers have attempted to provide resources to these individuals, but please know that by law, we cannot kick them off of public property. We are only requiring they clear the area of themselves and their belongings while this work is being done.
