When I became a pediatrician, I never thought I needed to be a "vaccine advocate" because getting vaccinated was such a natural and sensible thing to do. But 30 years ago, I worked in a Philadelphia clinic where I witnessed the horror of a measles outbreak, which took the lives of nine children and hospitalized many more, all because some children were not vaccinated. There is now hope -- only if everyone gets the COVID vaccine. We now have the shot to get our country back to normal -- only if you and I and our families and friends say WE want the vaccine. In the chaos of the pandemic, we are still seeing too many people saying they will opt out when it's their turn.
