Shannon admitted that it had been 10 years since she updated her headshot. 10! It's not uncommon though, as we age our perception of ourselves can change and sometimes we look at those older images with a rosier view than our current face. Shannon had enough "I didn't want to think like that anymore, this is me!" She walked away feeling *great* about herself. Which is really what it's all about.

Lisel dutifully nodded when we went over her outfits and the order in which we'd photograph them...and then we chatted about how her family is watching all the marvel movies and the state of theatre right now. We both stopped short of saying that old theatre cliche (you know the one) but the air of it was definitely in the room!

Alyce came in and blew the doors off the place. Playwright, Pastor, Poet and probably just about anything else that's doable. Alyce was very humble but has an undeniable presence when she tells a story. We talked about her life. She told me about moving to LA just in time for Watts, and about how different San Diego was in the 70s, and about how she feels about our current cultural shift and the potential that lies therein. Ever grateful for her perspective and sharing.

Xavier...who said "WOW" when he saw this image. More than sending folks home with great photos, I like to send them home feeling great about themselves.

Amber came in and let her hair down both literally and figuratively :)

12 years ago today I picked you up for the first time. I didn't know I'd be bringing a dog home when I woke up that morning, but I knew I'd be taking you home right after I picked you up. You were this timid unsure little ball of fur that fit in my sweatshirt pocket. You had a high pitched whine and you let me hear it whenever I left the room or put you to bed. Those first few nights were tough. You whined and whined, but I knew if we slept apart for a bit it would help your ...independence in the long run. Boy was I right! You had nothing but love for everything on two legs and an absolute zest for life. In fact Lindsay and I joked that you'd go home with anybody and still be the happiest dog that ever dogged. I'll always remember this about you. You were %100 giving of your love and positive energy to everyone you met Every. Single. Time. For all the things I taught you. That was something that you taught me. Happy gotcha day buddy, wherever you are .

Charlie keeps his eye on the prize! Special thanks to Lindsay for tossing the ball for me that one last time. You'd think it would be easy to hold a dogs attention and throw a ball *and* get the ball in the shot...but you'd be wrong @ San Diego, California

It's national... international? World? Whichever. It's dog day. Here's Argo ballin' out with his cousin Zoe. We're in a new apartment, sans dog, and while it's a combination of weird and sad...it feels less so because of the new surroundings. I've been asked by a few people and am nowhere in the same universe as being ready for another dog... But I AM here for helping out dogs that need it. Lindsay and I were very lucky. When Argo was initially diagnosed we told his oncologis...t "we will do whatever it takes to keep him as comfortable and happy as possible for as long as it makes sense for *him* ( we didn't want to selfishly cling to him) and that money was not a concern. We both had a solid grasp of potential vet costs and knew we could afford whatever Argo needed. Some people aren't so lucky, and the idea of a pet's life coming down to a financial decision absolutely wrecks me. This is why The Face Foundation is one of my favorite charities, as they share the same philosophy. When a pet needs a life saving procedure, Face is there to help with the financials. People can apply for grants so they can give their pets the life saving care they need. So many of you reached out over the past couple of weeks and it truly means the world to me. If Argo touched your life in some way, or if you're otherwise in the giving mood I urge you to donate whatever amount you can to @face_foundation and help save a pet's life. www.face4pets.org for those of you seeing this not on Instagram. #nationaldogday #internationaldogday

8/16/2007 - 08/12/2019 Summer wanes. I am 25. It's about an hour until the end of my shift when I pick you up out of a basket of your brothers and sisters. You just about fit in the palm of my hand and nuzzle your head up under my chin. I'm taking you home. I teach you everything you need to know. I introduce you to friends, family, and you win them over effortlessly. It's spring. I'm 26 and heartbroken. I wonder if I'll "ever find love" and it's all a bit silly, but you're... there without judgement dropping a ball in my lap. We play and I forget my troubles for a while. I'm 27 we're at the tail end of winter, and I screw up royally. I hate myself. I think I'm stupid, that I'm no good, worthless. There you are again, wagging your tail, without judgement. You need to be walked and fed and you let me know this with a signature bark/spin. I take you outside, smiling, and forget my troubles for a while. It's summer again. I'm 29 and I think I'm in love. She's great, maybe the greatest? You shower her with affection, you make her feel welcome in our home. We leave that home for another with her, and another, and another as years pass. Each new home made familiar and comfortable for us over time, but you always adapt instantly without complaint. It's spring again. You've lost a step over the years but you're still 100% giving of yourself. Still generous with your affection. "He's such a good dog!" Everyone says it as you great them with gusto and wow them with tricks. We notice something isn't right and take you to the doctor. You have Cancer. You don't have much time left. We are devastated. You, however, are an absolute champion. You maintain yourself for as long as your body will let you. Finally, you tell us you've had enough. You tell us it's time to go. We don't want it to be true but we respect you too much to have you linger for our sake. A very nice doctor comes to the house. We lay you down to make sure you're comfortable; pet you and shed tears over you. We tell you you're loved. We tell you goodbye as we watch the light leave your eyes. Love you forever, Argo. You're the best dog.

Vie Imprimée Nothing beats that feeling when your work becomes tangible. That little tingle in the back of your mind you get when you see someone holding it, touching it, that says "Yeah. I made that." So great to work with Julie and Kingston to create this image that will be in the may issue of Modern Luxury Magazine SD! Julie was very specific about conveying a sense of "Yes I'm a mom and yes he is everything, but I'm still *me*." She chose the outfit and the location and we knocked this shot out in 20 minutes. "Hit that Mark like it owes you money." They both did at the same time!

Been putting off getting a stellar headshot that shows you at your absolute best and will draw people into casting / doing business with you? Did you read over that and think about how ridiculous that sounds? Don't put this off! Come in and up your game.
