AC Dsal Summer Camp Session 1. RCD staff shared drumming with 47 day campers, most of whom never played drums before. It was a great way to get new kids from the community introduced to drumming and we get to see them twice a week for the next three weeks. Session 2 begins July 19. Register at acdsal.org. (we never got to practice in a shade tent back in the day)! #zildjian #vicfirth #alamedacountydsal #communitycapitalspolicing #dsalboxing #digdeepfarms

When Chris told me about this project for Sac, I knew it would be difficult to pull off, but he is amazingly talented and creative and knows how to get the best out of his students. So glad he is part of the RCD family and thankful for all he brings to our programs!
Proud to announce a great endorsement agreement! #zildjian, #vicfirth, #dsalstrong, #communitycapitalspolicing

On Saturday, May 1, the Rhythm Cadets are hosting a no contact document shredding event to raise money for programs supporting our justice system involved students and our local community students. Our goal is to raise $10k for sticks/pads, drums, transit passes, and other learning materials. We thank you for your support and encouragement as we come out of the pandemic's restricted tiers. If you are not in the bay area or can't make it to the shred event, you can make a donation through Facebook using the Donate button on our page.
Building on the success of the Rhythm Cadets Drumline, we expanded our program offerings with a new branch called RC Pathways which was created to teach music as a second language and give elective course credit and a form of therapeutic healing to the justice system involved youth in juvenile detention centers. Chris and I moved gear to the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center on January 13, met the students on January 19, and gave the first day of formal instruction on January 20. For the past two months, we have been working with students virtually and look forward to going back onsite for in person classes. Our second term begins on April 2 and we have the opportunity to expand our JJC offerings to more units once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted by the state and county.

Try Something New is a campaign by Alameda County DSAL to give kids in our communities an opportunity to try new things during the Covid-19 Shelter In Place. It doesn't matter if you have never played drums before or if you have been playing a long time...we invite you to watch and play along as the Rhythm Cadets staff demonstrates some basics of percussion. @L.E. Successful zoom drumline rehearsal...a little rough getting used to, but good for the time being. Looking forward to the next one on Friday with more of the line too.

Covid19 has put a temporary halt to our rehearsals, but it has not put a halt to our opportunities. We are proud to announce to beginning of the Rhythm Cadets Pathways program. As the recipient of a grant from the California Arts Council, we will be bringing music and drumming to students involved in the Juvenile Justice System at the juvenile justice center in San Leandro. We will strive to reach out to youth who have had negative influences in their lives and give them a po...sitive path forward through music and drumming. Chris Cyr has joined the Rhythm Cadets staff and will be bringing his significant talents and history to lead our JJC program as well as be part of the Rhythm Cadets Drumline's regular staff. As we come out of the current SIP protocols, we look forward to making a positive impact in the lives of the youth in the communities we serve.
