On Maundy Thursday we cover a lot of ground in Jesus' last week story. We read of the Last Supper, Jesus washing the disciples' feet, Judas' betrayal, and Peter's denial. The word maundy is actually derived from the Latin word for command. The reason for this day's title is Jesus' commandment to his disciples to "Love one another as I have loved you." On Holy Wednesday, we remember how Judas sold his loyalty to Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Interestingly, immediately prior to that we read of the woman pouring perfume on Jesus' feet. Maybe I don't do exactly that, but I know I can worship Him and then wonder if a life of obedience to Him is worth it, at times. On this day, may we recognize the loving conviction of the Spirit in our lives, and know that because of Jesus, God is still holding on to us. On Holy Tuesday we reflect on Jesus teaching at the Temple and particularly as he corrects the Pharisees and teachers of the Law. Our goal in this series is to move from anxiety to CALM. In week 1 we focused on Celebrating who God is. He’s good, He’s in control and He’s near. This week we Ask God for help by getting specific in our prayers; 1. Specific prayer helps you get to the root issue.... 2. Specific prayer for anxiety almost always involves other people in the answer. 3. Specific prayer can lead you to a specific passage of Scripture. So friends, this week let us get specific. All of us are going to experience anxiety. Even Jesus experienced temporary anxiety at the Garden of Gethsemane, where He sweat drops of blood in enormous ANXIETY over what was before Him in the hours ahead as He would be crucified for the sins of the world. It's not that we’ll never be anxious, but that our anxiety can and will be temporary Perfect peace comes from trusting that fundamentally God is GOOD and God is in CONTROL.... "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" Philippians 4:4 So friends, let's trust in His GOODNESS and His CONTROL today! What are you anxious for? This last weekend we were reminded through Paul's letter, that our belief precedes behavior. Not if, but when anxiety begins to spiral out of control, go back to what you believe about God. What you believe and celebrate specifically about God determines how you behave and deal with anxiety.... How can you celebrate God today and remember that He is good?

When we find ourselves living between the idea that God is good and God is in control, it's not that we will never be anxious, but that our anxiety will be temporary and ultimately we will have peace. On Sunday we kicked off a new series called, Anxious For Nothing and we celebrated (in person and online!) who God is! This week, may we be blessed by understanding that He is good and by giving Him control. May we live in that safe space between His goodness and His control.
