This is pretty amazing. The native cherry seeds that I put in the refrigerator with moist soil are already growing roots. A lot sooner than I expected. I don’t see any roots in the jars with sand or permalite yet.

One of our former students passed away on Saturday. She had just graduated high school last school year. Heartbroken. Please contribute to funeral costs if you can. It costs so much to die in this society and anything to help the family right now would be greatly appreciated. Melissa was one of my students from 2016 to 2017 when she was in the 9th grade, and I remember her smile and sweetness. She just recently turned 18 years old.

Repost @teresameichuc One of the most beautiful moments gathering native cherries from the tree I had planted as a one gallon a few years ago. #happiness

Great resource for undocumented folks to get their birth certificates (cost about $16) and other records!

Regenerating Hxstory Was just listening to our local elders share stories of the community. Reflecting on our local hxstory. The voice our neighbors. Our family. Our local hxstory. ... Our stories show us our connection to place. The growth of a garden. (Are you a gentrifier/invasive? Do you have roots here? What experiences have you had living here?). Stories help us nurture our need for a sense of belonging. When stories are not heard, voices aren’t heard, people are erased. Our sense of belonging threatened. People get killed for sharing stories. Revealing truth. A community is lost when those stories are no longer shared. Listen to the stories of your local community. That voice can empower us towards action, understanding, and compassion. Respect to those elders who fought or continue to fight for a better present #Repost @myroneanderson with @get_repost Fifty years ago today the Chicano Moratorium, an East Los Angeles march led by 25,000 to 30,000 Chicanos protesting inequality and the disproportionate number of Latinos drafted and killed in the Vietnam War was violently broken up. A LA County Sheriff deputy misread a merchants call for assistance. The merchant whose store was near was concerned a couple of marchers might shoplift. The deputy translated this as these marchers were looting and called for a forceful end to the event. Police dropped tear gas from an overhead helicopter onto the peaceful crowd who were listening to speeches at Laguna Park. LA County Sheriff’s, backed by LAPD officers advanced on the park, beating the fleeing crowd with billy clubs. Four people died, 150 were arrested. Iconic LA Times journalist Reuben Salazar, whose writing awakened Los Angeles eyes to the hopes and frustrations of the Latino community was one of them. Reuben Salazar had retreated to the Silver Dollar Cafe, where Sheriff’s deputies unleashed a barrage of tear gas missiles designed to penetrate walls in. One hit Salazar in the head, instantly killing him. Laguna Park was subsequently renamed Reuben Salazar Park in his honor. Take a moment to honor Reuben Salazar and those who stood up to be heard and respected that day @ Ruben Salazar Park

This Friday! 09/11/2020 from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. Join us for a discussion on cultural burning, fire-retardant native plants, and local efforts of land stewardship. We will watch KCET’s Tending the Wild - Episode 1: Cultural Burning followed by an open discussion. We’ve engaged with local neighbors about the uncertainty of our times due to the fires (among other crises) while also recognizing the many posts on social media pointing towards Indigenous-based ecological knowledg...e and practices. We want to open space for us to reflect and share what knowledge we know as well as encourage us to collectively move towards finding innovative ways to better take care of the land we live on. For zoom info, please message us or text us at (405) 300 0019 #decolonizethisplace #culturalburning #traditionalecologicalknowledge
