Redwood Camp Meeting

Dear friends, loved ones and those I haven't met yet to be part of the first two categories. This was published in the NCC Northern Lights on August 27th but you may not have seen it: Redwood Area Camp Prepares to Host Evacuees... This week the Humboldt County Department of Emergency Services and the American Red Cross gave Redwood Area Camp permission to host up to 50 fire evacuees. Although the camp is not currently sheltering anyone, preparations are being made by caretakers Monty and Terri Parks, Fortuna Adventist Community Services, and volunteers from the Eureka church. Unfortunately, we’re just at the beginning of fire season, said Harry Salvini, Redwood Area Camp director. We want people to know that the grounds are available for the next several months. Guests will need to bring their own RVs and tents, and they must comply with social distancing requirements. Each campsite will have a porta potty, sanitation station, and trash can. Some have access to electricity. Shower facilities will be available at scheduled times to comply with health requirements. During their stay at Redwood, people may not leave the campground. [edited - this may not be accurate since that date - I need to check with the county]. The Fortuna ACS will provide two meals a day. ACS volunteers will get shopping lists from the evacuees, purchase the items (using grant money), prepare the food if necessary, and deliver it to the campground. The Red Cross has also offered its services for people who may need clothing, cots, or access to medicine. Monty and I have been enjoying the spring beauty here at Redwood camp and thought we would share some with you. Here are some pictures of the trees at Adult ll in full bloom

It is with incredible sadness that I share some news that broke my heart - Shirlee Neisner, our faithful Camp Nurse who cared for many of us (some of us more than we deserved) - passed away yesterday morning. She went way WAY beyond in kindness and compassion. Her medical knowledge was far beyond - I think she was a Nurse Practitioner. She had a medical condition I never knew about. An amazing woman. Nurses are angels without wings. We will miss her terribly. I'm sad that I will not see her again at Redwood. Until the trumpet sounds and our Brother calls us home, please keep her family in your prayers, and hold tight to loved ones. ~Harry

Dear friends. There are rumors that RAC has been cancelled. It has NOT been cancelled at this point. Most alerts and closures are until the end of April. We are in communications with Humboldt County and the Northern California Conference Office to stay on top of facts.
