October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Have you scheduled your mammogram this year? According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Survivor rates from breast cancer have been on the rise since the 1990s, in part due to improvements in screening, early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options. To schedule a mammogram or get more information, call the Nancy Varner Center for Women’s Health at (909) 793-4399 or visit, www: www.redlandshospital.org//nancy-varner-center-for-women-s/.
Due to the power outage and cancelation of the blood drive yesterday, it has been rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15 from 12-5 p.m. at the Weisser Education Pavilion. Bring a current photo ID or other ID with your photo and proof of age. Lifestream requires all staff and blood donors to wear face coverings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. These precautions are in addition to continuing social distancing as well as sanitation and cleaning protocols, and the use of personal protective equipment by LifeStream staff. Redlands Community Hospital is an advanced stroke center with Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC) certification from the Joint Commission in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. TSC certification signifies that our hospital meets rigorous and exacting standards to perform what is known as mechanical Endovascular Thrombectomy (EVT). This specialized surgical procedure is used to remove a blood clot from the brain during an ischemi...c stroke. Removing the clot that is causing the blockage helps the patient’s blood flow normally again. Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States, with about 4.7 million stroke survivors alive today. Though the coronavirus pandemic kept the 13th annual Believe Walk from filling downtown Redlands with thousands of walkers this past Sunday, participants still hit the streets in their own neighborhoods from Mentone to Riverside and beyond. Cancer survivor and Redlands Community Hospital employee Sharon Ash and about 10 family members walked around Mentone in support of the event. Ash has participated for many years and didn’t want to stop. Read more about her story in the Redlands Daily Facts.
