These three qualities are invaluable to the leader: 1) compassion for all creatures, 2) material simplicity, 3) a sense of equality. - The Tao of Leadership Adventure Rec student leaders are the pillar of our program. Your Giving Day gift on September 30 builds the Nik Madsen Memorial Endowment for Whole Heart Leadership. Interest earned from the endowment allows us to annually award student leaders with financial support to pursue professional development through the National Outdoor Leadership School and many other reputable organizations.

Effective Sunday, March 15, both the East and West Fitness and Recreation Facilities will be closed until further notice. Dear Athletics, Fitness & Recreation Member, As UC Santa Cruz implements proactive measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we are making changes to our operations. To that end, we are closing our East and West Recreation Facilities effective Sunday, March 15th. While there has not yet been a confirmed case of COVID-19 on campus, we want to take precau...tionary steps in our effort to reduce interaction between participants, students, professional staff, as well as our community membership. This aligns with guidance issued by the Santa Cruz Health Department to limit gatherings of 50 or more people and promote social distancing. Our outdoor fields, jogging path, hiking trails, west tennis and basketball courts and fitness multi-station remain available for your use. University information on COVID-19 can be found here. If you have any items stored in a locker that you need, you may access the facility during the following times: Monday, March 16th from 6:00 am - 9:00 am and 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 17th from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and 4:00 - 7:00 pm We will continue to monitor the situation as we determine when partial or full opening of facilities can be restored. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together to navigate this challenging time. Stay Well Slugs, Sue Harriman Director
