Another great review from one of our customers ...
Trying to avoid the Blue Screen of Death? R&B can help! Unless it's Halloween and this guy comes to your door. ;) Trick or Treat!
ATTENTION PLEASE: PG&E HAS CONFIRMED A POWER SHUT-DOWN FOR WESTERN NEVADA COUNTY FOR APPROXIMATELY 2:00 PM TODAY (October 23rd). ACCORDINGLY, WE WILL BE POWERING DOWN ALL IMPACTED SERVERS AND FIREWALLS AT 12 NOON TODAY. TO VERIFY IF YOUR ADDRESS IS AFFECTED BY THIS PSPS EVENT, VISIT https://psps.ss.pge.com TO VIEW ALERTS FROM NEVADA COUNTY, VISIT https://www.mynevadacounty.com/AlertCenter.aspx
(Note: for R&B customers outside of California, please disregard) With the potential for additional PG&E planned power outages in the coming days and weeks, here are the procedures we recommend that you follow: BEFORE THE POWER GOES OUT... 1. R&B will power down all servers and firewalls within our control 2-3 hours prior to anticipated power shutdown. 2. Customers should power down their workstations at least 2 hours prior to the anticipated power shutdown. AFTER THE POWER GOES OUT 3. Customers should unplug all systems (i.e., workstations, servers, firewalls, routers, modems, switches, and printers) to avoid potential for equipment damage when the power comes back on. (Note: there were numerous cases of customers losing equipment that was damaged WHEN the power came back on. You can minimize the chance of this by unplugging all systems). Note: Generally, unplugging a system (any system) is a bad idea while it is fully powered on and operational. It should be specified that servers, firewalls, and user computers should be properly shut down PRIOR to removing power from them. While we can remotely shut down servers and firewalls, user computers should be shut down on premises by those present. Additionally, network routers, hubs and switches should also be unplugged, and should include any broadband modems. The loss of power isn't the issue, it's the sudden influx of current upon restoration, that will take equipment out. If that equipment isn't connected to power, the initial spike will be unable to cause damage. WHEN THE POWER COMES BACK ON 4. Plug in all systems please note that modems, switches, and routers will typically come back on automatically ----- however, for servers, workstations and firewalls you will have to press the power button to power them on. PROBLEMS 5. Email [email protected] please don’t try to phone our office as our phone system will be down if our office doesn’t have power. Our ability to respond to email is far greater. Thank you!
Thank you for your patience during this time. Due to the PG&E Public Safety Power Shutdown affecting most of Northern California, R&B is has been functioning at very limited capacity, and will remain so until the shutdown is over. This could be as little as 24 hours or as much as four days. Our phones and voicemail are not accessible at this time, so if you need assistance, please email [email protected] and we will do our best to aid you. Rest assured that other remote systems, such email and web servers, are not effected this outage. For local Nevada County folks, there is a Community Resource Center setup at Sierra College in Grass Valley, where you can get access to charging stations, WiFi, public restrooms and washing stations.
Have you been avoiding that Windows update? Don't wait! Important security updates are coming so keep your system up-to-date!
THOUGHT EXERCISE: What tasks could your website or software be doing so that you don't have to? Give us a call to discuss how we can make it happen: 530.478.1137.
