I cried when I watched this. It makes me sad and furious. As a woman and a health care practitioner I have heard similar stories countless times. I am not sharing to vilify the doctors but highlight that women in pain are treated differently than men. I am racking my brain for a time when a male patient, or any man, told me he felt like his doctor thought his pain was all in his head/due to emotional upset. You know your body. You know when something is not right. Trust that.

A beautiful example of how a treatment can help diagnose. When we use Gua Sha and cupping as tools the markings left on the body yield more data about a patient's condition. A few weeks of neck tension created a lot of blood stasis, without an underlying pathology these marking would not appear. And this treatment was the opposite of painful, I know because I am the model. Thanks @hopperacupuncture for the tune up #tcm #acubabes

Quartz pendants or tongues? In TCM practitioners use the appearance of a patient's tongue to help diagnose and determine a pattern of disharmony. We look at color, coat, shape, size, geography, movement and break it down further to regions that correspond to organs! Who knew that little devil would give all of your secrets away #TCM #acupuncture #herbalmedicine

This beautiful Iris blooming in my front yard marks a seasonal shift! Days are getting longer and spring is coming soon. Ready to transform all that stored yin energy and explode it into outwardly expressive yang. Just like a bulb does! #tcm #naturalmedicine #wearenature!

What is that herb you are burning? Moxa or Ai Ye gets polarizing reviews as far as smell, the untrained nose will sometimes guess it is marijuananot even close! I have always found it to give me a warm milk and honey like feeling. In practice it is used for warming and blood moving properties, menstrual cramps anyone?? It is also great for arthritic/bi pain, I can picture my mother leaning over the kitchen sink tracing her fingers before bed. If you want to know more below is a very entertaining interview with one of my favorite teachers! http://yinyangpodcast.com/guests-to/95-lorraine-wilcox.html

Bone Broth has been gaining popularity recently as the new green juice but why? It is touted for supporting joint health, reducing osteoarthritic pain, lessening cosmetic signs of aging due to being dense in collagen, gelatin, chondroitin, glucosamine and hyaluronic acid. The amino acids proline, glutamine and arginine also help seal openings in the gut lining aka. leaky gut syndrome. There is also the argument that us meat eaters are dining on only muscle tissue and leavin...g out nutrient dense connective tissues and bones, due to their unappetizing quality to a western palate. Also on a intuitive level like-treats-like, this is a principal used in herbalism and homeopathy, if you are having issues with chronic injury of tendons or ligaments and they are slow to heal, one way of nourishing them is to add them to your diet. I have been experimenting with bone broth on and off for a while now, the off part being due to the labor involved in making it. I like to supplement my homemade supply with Belcampo Meats broth, but this is still difficult to always keep stocked. I recently discovered a bone broth protein powder via one of my favorite Podcasts by Daniel Vitalis - ReWild Yourself. It happened to be at the Santa Monica Co-Op so I grabbed some today and am excited to try it out. Cheers!

This is from 2013 but I just loved the story and the photo. Fourteen sea turtles got stranded on Cape Cod during a cold spell and were suffering a bit of hypothermia and unable to get their front flippers moving, even after a "traditional" round of western medicine. They decided to call in the big guns!!
