When families move into Raphael House, we can provide them with these "Bare Necessities Bundles" filled with these essential products so that they can save money and feel confident. We appreciate the support of Avery, Bennett, Zoya, and Isa! This spring, they've been setting up lemonade stands in their neighborhoods and a garage sale at their school, generously donating a portion of the proceeds to Raphael House! Today is our 50th birthday! June marks 50 years since we opened our doors to women and mothers with children who were temporarily experiencing homelessness. Since then, we've welcomed more than 20,000 children and parents of all types through our Residential Shelter Program, ensuring they leave stronger and equipped with the tools to succeed. We provide care to all types of families at Raphael House, including families with infants and expecting mothers. Just recently, we welcomed a healthy newborn baby into our Residential Shelter! Our Family Wellness Care Coordinator and Residential Shelter team support these families in many ways, including: Creating a birth plan when water breaks... It's #NationalPumpkinDay! To celebrate, our Family Wellness Care Coordinator Bianca gave each child in our Children's Evening Program their own pumpkin painting kit to join the fall festivities! We can't wait to see their creations.

Family wellness is one of the major components of our services at Raphael House. Knowing that many of our in-person group wellness activities are postponed, our friends at CORE donated these meditation devices to help our staff and families prioritize wellness. These devices provide guided meditation, breathing training, and soothing sounds. Thank you, Core! You may be wondering why we're posting a holiday photo in October, but we're just so excited that Adopt-A-Family Program sign-ups are now open! Our annual Adopt-A-Family program helps families in our programs enjoy a holiday season full of joy. This year especially has presented many challenges for families. Dinner at Raphael House is a time for families to be together and strengthen family bonds. Our kitchen chefs consider all families when planning their weekly menus. Whether families are vegetarian or have food allergies, our team always ensures they can enjoy a warm meal together every night. We appreciate the dedication of our team in keeping our dining room safe, cozy, and welcoming for the parents and children in our Residential Shelter!

We are so excited to have welcomed 5 new families into our Residential Shelter since we resumed our intake a few weeks ago! Since Shelter In Place started in March, we've implemented many safety and social distancing protocols, hired a new janitor, developed screening and isolation procedures, and adapted our meal services. Our dedicated team put in so much hard work to keep our community safe, all while continuing to support families the best way we could during the public ...health crisis. We are inspired by our donors' generosity for enabling us to continue our work, our team's commitment to #EndFamilyHomelessness, and by the determination of Raphael House families to meet their self-identified goals. Each year, we look forward to Aramark Building Community (ABC) Day, a day in September in which dozens of Aramark volunteers come together to clean, organize, and beautify our Residential Shelter for the families who call it home. While we can't celebrate #ABCDay in person this year, we are so grateful to our friends at Aramark and the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities for continuing to #CareGiveDo by allocating pandemic support funding to Raphael House, helping to build local communities, reduce inequity and increase access to opportunities. In 2008, Amanda King experienced a divorce that was followed by many challenges. Unable to pay rent or bills on a single income, she and her son were evicted from their San Francisco apartment. Facing homelessness and very little options, a friend referred Amanda to Raphael House, where she was welcomed with open arms. In addition to finding stability in our Residential Shelter, her Raphael House case manager immediately helped set up a housing search plan, which helped her... secure a home for her family after a few months. She also attended financial literacy workshops, which she says are instrumental in helping make better financial decisions to this day. Amanda always loved musicals and aspired to become a singer. During her stay at Raphael House, she was just starting to perform at various clubs throughout the Bay Area. Today, Amanda lives in Las Vegas with her son and performs her beautiful jazz songs in venues across the country. Now, Amanda King is giving back to the Raphael House community through an energetic performance at our Many Homes, Many Hearts online Gala on Saturday, Sept. 12th!
