I started working in this building back in 2005. If you were a member at 24 Hour Fitness then you’d remember me as the friendly young man with the 70s porn stache... In fact, that’s what my boss called me I was just out of high school, attending OCC taking all of my general ed classes. All I needed was a place where I could do my homework, and a free gym membership. I started my real estate career in 2011 and was an assistant to my brother-in-law, @garrett_weston He... was on a team that was high-end and fast-paced so I learned a lot in the first few years and I felt like I was exposed to as much as most agents are in their first 10. I put in my time cold calling, door knocking, making presentations, listing books, buyer letters, and learning ways to handle multiple issues. Fast forward 6 years and I’m contacted by a recruiter out of Los Angeles who told me they were going to be bringing a game-changing brokerage to Orange County. I passed on the opportunity because things were going well, and if it ain’t broke... Another year passes and I get called again. They opened the brokerage out of Fashion Island a couple months prior and were still expanding. They had a great foundation of agents in Newport Beach, CDM, and Laguna Beach, but they wanted their reach to touch Huntington Beach. I was young enough to understand how the tech would evoke change, but experienced enough to help them get noticed. If you know the staple realtors in Huntington Beach, you can imagine that Compass’ experience trying to sell them on a tech-driven platform was ‘challenging.’ My life had changed in the previous 6 months so after a few phone calls, I was invited down to interview with none other than @robreffkin and I can still remember the excitement and passion in his voice while speaking to me about all the ways they were using tech to help agents work smarter and more efficiently. His excitement was contagious and I never looked back. Even with the risks of being the new kid on the block, I was honored to serve as Compass’ first Huntington Beach realtor. Loving the fall mood in this photo. I’m pretty sure it was taken around this time 2 years ago when our temporary office was in Peter’s Landing, and the permanent downtown location was still getting built out. I usually have a camera on me and the sunset was colored deeply enough to convince me to change lenses and snap a few photos. Most of the time I don’t take time to stop and appreciate everything, which is why I love photography.
