When God told Jonah to go to Nineveh to tell them to repent or they would be destroyed, the prophet refused. He wanted the city to get what he thought they dese...rved, especially since they were the enemy of his people. After God rescued him from the great fish, Jonah reluctantly proclaimed the warning to the people of Nineveh and they repented. In response, God didn’t follow through with destroying them. This infuriated Jonah. Think about it: What is our own response when we see someone begin to change their lives as God’s Spirit brings them to repentance? When Joseph’s brothers, in a fit of jealousy, sold him to Midianite traders, they had no idea the full extent of the events they set in motion. Joseph’s life to...ok many turns from then on, taking him from servanthood to imprisonment to ultimately a position at the right hand of Pharaoh himself. One thing was sure, though in all these events, God was with him, working out the salvation of his own family and the people of Egypt. Pause for a moment: Who has hurt or betrayed you recently, or disrupted your life? How often do we judge one another by what they look like on the outside? Without even thinking, our brains quickly make an assumption about another person based... solely on what we can see with our eyes. It is nearly impossible to meet someone and not make some kind of internal judgment about them. Judgments are expectations based on pre-programmed mindsets or bias, and we all have them. Knowing that making judgements come naturally, how can we guard our hearts against wrongly pre-judging someone? It’s simple: Ask the Holy Spirit. Every encounter with another human being presents us with the opportunity to engage with the One who truly knows the other, whether it’s a spouse, child, co-worker, friend or even enemy. We have the incredible capacity to tap into the One who sees what we cannot. Lord, show us their heart, and while you’re at it, show me mine, too. #GCIMeditationMonday See more
