‘Tis that time of year again to begin prepping The Monarch Challenge Rose for bottling. We started producing this wine in 2017 to raise awareness for the environment, our pollinators and better farming practices without using harmful chemicals such as Round-Up (glyphosate) in farming and agriculture. This year with the release of @monarch_tractor it is exciting for us to see that vision help create that reality. 100 Years in Wine | 2019 Vintage Wine has always been a reflection of human's interaction with nature. We are forever bound to the wavelengths of Mother Nature and wine records this with every vintage. As we look back 100 years to celebrate the release of our family’s 100th harvest with the 2019 vintage, we have to take pause. So much has changed. The challenges our great-grandfather Cesare, and grandfather Robert, faced are far different than the ones we are facing now. The...ir generation solved so many of the BIG, complex challenges behind the science of winemaking, unlocking a generation's worth of the finest wines in the history of humanity. Now, as we look forward 100 years, we face a very scary challenge. One that will not easily be met and one that we cannot fight alone! This challenge is climate change. The 2017, 2018, 2019 vintages and now the 2020 vintage saw record fires in California, Australia, the Amazon and Siberia. Those, and many other sacred areas that help to keep our planet in balance, burnt at record levels, accelerating an already-dangerous situation. As we reflect on our family's century of winegrowing history going back to Cesare, Robert and Tim, there has never been a time when we have seen these record-breaking temperatures and fires associated with them. Our friends in Burgundy, Barolo, Australia and beyond are echoing this alarm and deepest concern as well. For many it is not fires but more severe unusual weather. We say this in the hopes that our 100 years of farming and winemaking data can offer as real life credibility to those still questioning climatologists and scientific community. We can all do something to bring about positive change. Our focus at RAEN for the next 100 years will continue to be to produce wines that sit along the world's finest, farming regeneratively and encouraging others to do the same, while bringing in technologies that allow us to rise to this climate crisis we are in and protect our planet. Our Sorì della Sorba harvest wrapped up this past week in Diano D’Alba, Italy This vinetage marks Giovanna and my second harvest giving us a deeper understanding of this site we love so much. These beautiful Nebbiolo clusters are now in tank, fermenting away, filling the winery with happiness. As we take risks and push ourselves in farming we are continuously amazed at how nature connects the dots. It does help that Mother Nature has been incredibly kind to us this year. Needless to say we can’t wait to share our Sorì della Sorba single vinyard bottling and our journey here with you...
