Reclaiming Your Power as a Critical Educator of Color because, what systems of oppression fear the most is our collective power!! Tomorrow we'll explore the topic a bit and invite you to dig deeper in a workshop on May 27th. We're bringing together the powerful ass @quetzaleducation and @brownbadassbonita for the first time, but not the last

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and all those who mother. Mothering is something that transcends all social constructs and boxes. It is something that has mentored many of us, as Black and Brown educators. Think about the first time you ever learned something useful, transformational, or life-changing and most likely it is because of the mother village that exists in our communities. A special shout out to a few of the mothers we have the honor of working closely with! A...na is our director of humanities and most likely the first person you will talk to in reaching out to Quetzal Education. She is a radical mami that will do everything in her power to see her baby and her community thriving. We are so blessed she chose to build Quetzal! Victoria is a critical educator that we've had the honor of working with this school year. With all that she finesses as a mother and teacher we feel honored to learn alongside her. Her ancestral wisdom and ability to love community is beyond anything we've seen before. Felicia is an educational researcher & artist who we have had the pleasure of creating a healing-centered module with for our Antiracist Course for Educators (ACE). We are so proud of #KamaiusMommy and all that she has shared with the world in her motherhood journey. We honor you, we love you, and we SEE you! #HappyMothersDay

Truthfully it's difficult to post in a state of mourning. It's difficult to say anything when our communities are grieving so much. But as we know silence will get us no where. And yet, words are not enough. We want to see more schools stepping up in true solidarity and stop putting the work on teachers of Color to address the grief happening in our own communities. If you don't know where to start, ask your teachers, staff, families and students the following: What would it ...look like to truly honor the lives of the women lost? How can we celebrate their lives and center their lagacies? How can we be sure to teach about anti-Asian racism and xenophobia all year long, while always centering the resilience and solidarity within Asian communities and social movements? #QuetzalEducation #AntiracistEducation #AbolitionistTeaching #Solidarity #Resilience #Community
