Our wastewater system clients are reporting that disposable masks are being flushed down the toilet and ending up in the sewer system. Anything apart from raw sewage and toilet paper causes real problems in the sewer system by clogging the pipes. This could cause sewage overflows that contaminate rivers, lagoons, and the ocean. Please dispose masks in the trash or, better yet, use cloth face coverings that can be washed and reused.
