It's COLD out there! Is your aquarium heater over 2 years old? With winter approaching and cold fronts moving in we highly recommend replacing aquarium heaters that are older than 2 years. They do go "bad", and when they do, it can wreck havoc on your ecosystem. Either they stop working completely OR worse, they overheat and "cook" you fish, eeeek!! Does your tank need a water change this weekend?

The weather is cooling down out there so be on the lookout for Ich on your finned friends! What's Ich? Ich, or white spot disease, is a common parasitic infection that can manifest on fresh and saltwater fishes as little white spots on their fins or body. In freshwater tanks, Ich is easily treatable within 3-5 days of using medication (Melafix/Quick Cure). For prevention of Ich, or to aid in treatment, adding a touch of rock salt and liquid immune booster along with raising... the temperature of your aquarium heater is highly reccomended. If treatment is necessary, remember to remove carbon from filters and only treat a 1/2 dose for scaleless fish, ie; catfish, loaches. Please note: Ich medications are NOT safe for shrimp, crabs, lobsters or snails. We encourage maintaining high water quality, stable temperature, and feeding a healthy, varied diet to help avoid getting Ich.
