Pro-Motion Sports is introducing a YOUTH TRAINING PROGRAM that will reinforce optimal structure and movement of the human body in order to mitigate injury and improve performance. Who is it for?... A program for youth sport participants who wish to optimize their movement and remain a competitive. Ages 7-18 There’s plenty of misconceptions on proper training for an athlete which needs to be corrected. This program will emphasize the education on the reason and importance of the applications used. The training and education provided by this program will provide your athlete(s) the essential knowledge and awareness to remain a daily competitor on the field/court. Without proper guidance, your athlete(s) is more susceptible to enduring an acute or over-use injury. The athlete must understand optimal movement and maintenance of physical stress in order avoid the likeliness of injury or burning out. Expected results is becoming more kinetically aware, an increased awareness of their physical movements and an understanding on how to maintain an optimal competitive condition You can book our 1 on 1 in-person training sessions at the office and group training will be added soon! If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you. You can be certain you’ll be challenged while learning new movements here at the office. We all know stretching is important, but the intention of the stretch is even more important.... We see all these posts online saying stretch this way, position your body just like me, try to duplicate this movement. Even if we tried to stretch that same exact way, based on Dynamic Systems Theory, the same exact tissues won’t be stressed. This means that finding the right line of tension FOR YOUR BODY is important. You’ll see in this video, we’re doing some movement exploration in the 90/90 position. While exploring the movement, you’ll notice positioning your body a certain way might feel better than doing it the same way someone else is doing it. Finding these lines could be the difference between you wasting time trying to do the same stretches over and over again and you training your body efficiently and effectively. We have a brain for one thing and one thing only - and that’s to produce adaptable and complex movements. -Daniel Wolpert ... Humans were made to move. Move to run away from predators. Move to gather berries and hunt animals. Move to travel long distances. Reaching overhead to pick fruit off of a tree. Squatting down to pick up fruit baskets. Our ancestors were exposed to a variety of movements and they definitely had far less back pain. Compare that to today in modern times, we don’t nearly get as much movement variability. We’re mostly seated, we can get food delivered with the click of a button, and guess what..... back pain and joint pain is at an all time high. As toddlers, we have a fresh set of joints, 0 pain, and crazy mobility. What happens is, we get older and accustomed to sitting in school all day, sitting in the car for hours, and sitting on our couch catching up on the latest episodes of whatever it is. We never fully express what our joints can do, and if we don’t use it, we lose it, meaning whatever ranges of motion we don’t use, our body loses the ability to express those ranges... so if you don’t deep squat your whole life then try to do it randomly one day, forget about it. Now I’m not saying to start living how our ancestors lived and become savages hunting and gathering our own food just to get some pain relief, but maybe try exposing yourself to more movement variability. The deep squat is one of those positions that tests your mobility. It requires a great deal of hip, knee, and ankle mobility. Percussion/Vibration devices. Do they work? Should I use them? We get asked this question a lot and we know a lot of you have them.... Our short answer: If it makes you feel better, we’re all about it. If you’re absolutely in need of some relief and you don’t feel like getting off the couch or out of bed to do some stretching, then yes it would probably help you get some relief. BUT, it shouldn’t replace the other techniques to make lasting change in the tissue. These devices affect afference more than anything, which is just a fancy word for the signals being sent to the brain from the body, which includes pain. So yes, it will make you feel better. As you see here, using it with the muscle in a stretched position is what we recommend.
