Sierra Ridge is working on the 2020/2021 Wolverine Yearbook. Since COVID, our schools are faced with so many "different" ways of doing things. The Yearbook is no exception. We have pages to fill, and very few photos to fill them with. We need to get creative. And, we need YOU...our wonderful Wolverine families to help us! We have come up with several ideas to fill the pages, and we just need your pictures! Here are some of our ideas, but feel free to add others. "Fads an...d Fashions" - pictures of your kids wearing Vans, Converse, stylish dress-code appropriate outfits, hats...things kids are into right now. "All Smiles" - since we can’t see their smiles under their masks on campus right now, we want to feature close-up smiling Wolverine faces sent from their homes! "What will you remember most about this school year?" Good things, not so good things...what makes this year memorable. Game On page. We need your photos of Wolverines playing computer, board games or puzzles at home. Wolverines in their spare time...riding scooters, hiking, baking, woodworking etc. Guess who the masked person is...a page with close-up photos of just eyes and masks and have to figure out who the masked person is. "Together Apart". Kids take photos of themselves at home and their friends take a photo doing the same thing mirrored at their home, and we put them side by side to make one photo. Think high-fives, knuckles, hearts with one hand etc. Snow!! Good snow day photos are always fun! Photos can be emailed to [email protected], or texted to Rita Ferdon at 510-541-8094. Thank you so much for your time and help! Together, we can make these kiddos a lasting and fun memory of this unique year!

December 8, 2020 Dear Pollock Pines Families, Much of the funding for our school is predicated on our student population, and recognizing those students who qualify for free or reduced status helps the district to maximize funding and provide additional services to our children. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended several important waivers and flexibilities that allow us to provide meals to all students at no charge through June 30, 2021. Although this a...nnouncement brought a huge relief to our school meal program and the community we serve, one unintended result is that we have seen a decrease in the number of verified students that would normally qualify for free or reduced price meals. If you have not already submitted an application for free or reduced price meals for 2020-21, please submit a Household Income Data Collection form. Every student with a family under a certain income, learning English, or in foster care generates additional funding for our schools. In districts where at least 55% of students fall into these categories, they receive even more funding. In Pollock Pines Elementary School District, these funds are given to each school to increase and improve services for these students. Completing the Household Income Form ensures your school receives all available funds. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this form, to help us maximize the resources to provide services to our students. Thank you, Pat Atkins Superintendent

December 4, 2020 Dear Pollock Pines Families, We made it through our first week of school after the Thanksgiving break with minimal disruption to our instructional program. It appears as though everyone is following the guidelines and remaining diligent in monitoring their children and themselves for symptoms prior to coming to school. This will be even more crucial during the next two weeks as the positivity rate is expe...Continue reading

November 30, 2020 Dear Pollock Pines Families, I hope you all had a nice and restful Thanksgiving break. We are looking forward to seeing the students back on campus tomorrow. As we welcome students back, we want to remind you of the COVID-19 Daily Self-Screening Questions: If your child is experiencing any of the following, please keep them home.... Do you have a fever (temperature over 100.4 F or 38 C) without having taken any fever-reducing medications? Do you have a loss of smell or taste? Do you have a cough? Do you have muscle aches? Do you have a sore throat? Do you have shortness of breath? Do you have chills? Do you have a new or unusual headache? Have you experienced the onset of any gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite in the last few days? Have you, or anyone you have been in close contact with, been diagnosed with COVID-19 or placed in quarantine for possible exposure to COVID-19 within the past two weeks? Have you been asked to self-isolate or quarantine by a medical professional or a local public health official with the last two weeks? We realize there is much trepidation in the community regarding the increase in COVID-19 cases. We want to assure you that we will continue to put the safety of the students and staff first. We will continue to screen for symptoms at school as well as follow all recommended safety and sanitation protocols to include face coverings at all times while inside classrooms and busses. Stay Safe Pat Atkins Superintendent

November 20, 2020 Dear Pollock Pines Families, I am writing to wish all of you a very happy holiday season. This season will be unique in many ways and I hope you are able to celebrate in some form or fashion with your families. Perhaps more than any other time during the pandemic, we need to be mindful of the safety precautions and protocols. It is my belief that by following the guidelines our schools have been safe and free of any cases. I am very proud of the diligent... work by school staff, parents, and students. Everyone’s efforts have allowed our hybrid to operate without any disruption and we want to see that continue. Lastly, I want to thank all of the families for the support and patience they have shown the schools and staff. It is quite evident that the schools are an extension of the community in Pollock Pines and we are all one big team. Our team is focused on coming out on the other side of this pandemic stronger and closer. Stay Safe, Stay Distanced and Stay Masked. Pat Atkins, Superintendent

El Dorado County Schools Remain Open for In-person Instruction Today, November 16, the State of California announced that El Dorado County has moved into the Purple or ‘Widespread’ tier of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. This does not impact El Dorado County schools, county-wide El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) programs or administrative offices that have reopened their facilities to hybrid, in-person instruction/operations. Any El Dorado County schools that ha...ve not opened to in-person instruction will now be required to wait until the County returns to a less restrictive tier and follow a different process for re-opening. It is important to note that education is considered an essential function and is not a ‘gathering’ as defined by the state. El Dorado County schools are following comprehensive plans for providing in-person instruction that are in alignment with state and local health guidance, Dr. Manansala, El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, explained. Due to their thoughtful implementation, partnerships with students and their families, and the dedicated efforts of our educators, El Dorado County schools have demonstrated that they are among the safest places for students to be at this time. Eric Bonniksen, Placerville Union School District Superintendent, expressed, We are concerned with the County moving into the Purple Tier but have been very pleased with how our current protocols are working along with our relationship with Dr. Williams, El Dorado County Public Health Officer, and the Public Health Department. We are looking forward to continuing to serve our students in the current hybrid format. Just like everyone, we are hoping that as a community, we can reverse this trend and move forward with the progress we were having. As schools have reopened for in-person learning El Dorado County educators and families have validated the benefits of in-person learning. School districts have been working hand-in-hand with the EDCOE and Department of Public Health to keep staff and students safe. It is unfortunate that El Dorado County has moved into the Purple Tier, but schools appear to be safe places for students and staff there are no plans to fall backward if these conditions do not change, Dr. Nancy Williams, El Dorado County Public Health Officer, noted. Now more than ever, we need our community’s individual efforts to take precautions and band together to decrease these new-case rates. We will need this to happen to progress further with in-person schooling as well as to keep students' parents employed and businesses open. As we move through these challenges together, we maintain our focus on the health and safety of our schools, programs and community, Dr. Manansala added. Thank you to those who are supporting these efforts that help prevent the spread of this virus and keep our schools open.
