Our faith is passed not by a program or a church service or a book that we read but in relationship with one another where we know each other’s names and stories and we share the goodness of God with each other. Why is it important that an 8 year old hang out with an 80 year old in church? It’s not so they can laugh over the latest meme or discuss medications. It’s not the things we think are needed for common ground like shared life experiences or familiar hobbies or act...ivities. It’s not about programming or events or activities. No, it’s for much deeper reasons than that. It’s so that one generation can commend God’s works to another and tell of His mighty acts. In Florence, Italy, a local Church of the Nazarene recently invited their community to help feed families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a connectio...n with a large supermarket chain, volunteers from the church set up a collection station outside the doors of the market. The manager welcomed the volunteers, gifting the group with two shopping carts of food and making sure shoppers could easily see the collection station. As shoppers noticed the food already donated, many were encouraged to add to the pile! People of all ages stopped at the table throughout the day to give food and supplies. At the end of the day, the church had collected approximately 3,000 worth of food and filled six cars with all the donations. With this amount, the church was able to distribute food packs to 20 local families for five consecutive months. The church is planning to return to the supermarket for another collection day in November. #livecompassion
