The system requires up to 16A for battery charging and only 5A during normal operation. While battery charging, the unit may have a cooling fan. This rack changes the backplane from paralleling the RCP-2000-48, to running the units in series to achieve the 96Vdc needed. Powergate is working with a customer that is in the cloud storage business. The customer builds their own data storage systems utilizing a RAID array of twelve 3TB disk drives, six 120mm, 12V fans and a standard OEM mother board. They had been using two modified standard ATX type power supplies each at 1200 watts. These power supplies cost the customer over $265 each and cause some issues with the system when there is an output failure of the 5V or 12V rails in either of the units. Mean Well HLG-320-30 application for Industrial Robot Powergate is supporting a customer that has an application for 29Vdc at 20A for charging a battery for industrial robots. This application requires a constant current power supply that can deliver 20A to a large LI battery stack. The customer solved there power requirement by using two HLG-320-30 units in parallel. The final version of this product has a special factory modification that sets the voltages at 29Vdc at 10A.... The units are then placed in the customers system in parallel with the outputs being controlled by a charge control circuit. This allows the HLG-320 units to be a constant current source to the batteries. The use of the HLG-320 units in this application was perfect for the customer. Because they are enclosed in a metal case and potted the HLG-320 units allow the customer to dissipate any heat generated into the metal chassis on the charger. Also, the slim, Low profile of the HLG-320 units allow the customer to have a very compact system. While the HLG-320 units are primarily designed for LED application the constant current design allows a perfect solution to battery application. In this case the customer has a primary overvoltage protection circuit built into the battery controller, and the HLG-320 set at 29Vdc adds additional overvoltage protection. http://ow.ly/sVIYG

This customer has the room for a large power system but cost is a driving issue because of the market that they serve. The Meanwell PPS-200-24 was a perfect fit for the application to supply 24VDC to the main system to drive their motors and solenoids, along with an OEM computer board. The Meanwell PPS-...200-24 allows the unit to operate with any input voltage and supply the load of the customer with margin to spare. This is a cost effective solution to a power issue where peak power demands and high reliability are of great importance. Tiny NEVO+600M Watt Modular Power Supply used in Medical Application PowergGate is working with a manufacturer of medical systems that has the need to operate their system in a fail safe mode. This requires the power system be designed for a fail-safe / redundant operation. The customer's first generation system utilized a standard open frame power supply that was large, inefficient, and exhibited a higher than acceptable failure rate. The customer was unable to build a redun...dant system as the existing power supplies were so large and lacked accurate parallel operation capabilities. PowerGate introduced the ultra-compact NEVO+600M modular power supply to the engineers. This power supply is rated at 600Watts and capable of parallel redundant operation. The compact 3X5.1X1.61 footprint allowed two of the NEVO+600M's to fit in the space of just one of the older brand X products. End result is a system with full redundancy, 20% higher output power, and additional status / comtrol functions. The modularity of the NEVO+600M allowed engineers to use this power supply design in multiple applications. The new designs were implemented quickly due to the great flexibility in the power supply and the 60601-1 3rd edition compliance, coupled with extremely low leakage currents.
