Update April 29, 2021: The recent rain storm has not produced a significant amount of wildflowers blooming at the Poppy Reserve. The rise in temperature this week does not help. If you enjoy a nice walk outdoors, the trails at the Poppy Reserve offer a chance to get some exercise and learn about the history of the area via the park’s cell phone tour. #poppyreserve #castateparks #droughtconditions

Doing spring cleaning in the visitor center today, staff found what looked like a stack of old plywood and cardboard. On closer inspection, it was found to be a... homemade flower press.... and there were pressed flowers in it! They appear to be species of the Poppy Reserve: owl's clover, phacelia, red-stemmed filaree, and possibly yellow pincushion. They looked vibrant and fresh, but the accompanying note is in the handwriting of a ranger who worked here about 30 years ago! Update: the second sheet with grasses says 1979!! See more
