We are here to remember and celebrate the life of our dear friend Officer Malama Scanlan. We share our prayers and love with the Scanlan family and the Polynesian community here in Fresno. We have lost one of the most influential role models for our community. He was a wonderful example of how we as Polynesians strive to live our lives. He will remembered for his loving heart, his service to this community and for being a friend to all. God bless all that know and love Malama, Tepatasi and their family. We are honored to have been invited to be a part of this beautiful service, thank you.

Thursday Night Boys Class Nou Mau No Au Lehua Kalima & John "Duke" Mailolo If the song sounds familiar to you, it’s because it’s You’ve Got a Friend in Me in Hawaiian. This year was a struggle! As the county guidelines changed, we switched between zoom, in person, at the park, and even at the studio but outdoors. But amid all of the chaos and change, two things remained constant: Our love for each other and our shared passion for dance. Music by Josh Tatofi Choreography by Martha Kuma & Tracy Arredondo Video edited by Leo Kuma... If the music moves you to want to dance with us, we invite you to join us! Watch our page for infor about new classes starting soon. The studio reopens the week of January 11th and new classes start the first week of February! #PolynesianDance #Fresno #Hula #NoTeHereOteHiroa #PolynesianClubofFresno #Dance

This sweet woman here is one of our Sassy Ladies Chris Stevens. She is a talented dancer and and a kind and loving friend. She and her husband Bob celebrated their 60th Anniversary with us last week at the studio!! For MONTHS we’ve been sharing her excitement about a big party they were planning for this anniversary. With COVID-19 those plans were cancelled, but her hula sisters were happy to celebrate with them at the studio! 60 years of LOVE!! Bob’s advice: LISTEN when... your wife speaks, just stop and listen Chris’s advice: When one of you is mad, don’t join them in anger. Stay calm and don’t go to bed angry. Thank you Stevens family for being part of our ohana all these years and for sharing your special day with us!

Thank you to all of you current dancers, drummers & new friends that joined us at the park this morning! It was awesome to see old dancers from 10-25 years ago show up! We didn’t take any pictures after the 7:30am session. But It’s ok, you’ll see here below how hard it is to take a group pic 10 feet apart anyway Thank you Aileen Leyva for the new masks so the sassy ladies could all match - we looked so good TOGETHER. And thank you Rosalinda Gonzalez for the yummy br...eakfast, again! We appreciate you and your drive through sugar bomb Thank you drummers for getting up EARLY so we could dance to your live drumming It’s hard not to hug our dance kids, it’s hard to congregate so far apart- but I’m thankful we can be together like this at least!

This is free to anyone! All ages, no experience needed. Come workout with us tomorrow morning at Woodward Park in Fresno. All necessary info in the flyer. It’s super last minute, sorry!I We were unsure if we’d do it because the air quality is bad, but we’ll keep it short - only 45 min

2004 was another competition year for us. Our adults celebrated the beauty of the Tuamotus, the tamari’i (children) did what kids in the islands do best enjoy games and nature! Our mehura presentations included Himene Tatarahapa, a beautiful song that is still a favorite of ours. These memory posts bring back wonderful memories of times we spent together. The last group on this video is our sassy ladies (Tupuna) and it was great to see my aunty Fepaki Fakava and dear friend Shirley Allen dancing together. They are remembered for the laughter and love they shared with their friends and all of us.

2005 All of these pics were pulled from an event we did in 2005 for the Clovis Chamber of Commerce. The cutest one we found in here was a picture of Ab Gomez and her sister Celina when they were babies. Abrianna Gomez started out a dancer and Martha fought HARD to keep her dancing, but about age 12 she found her true passion, drumming! The drummers stole her from the dancers and she became the baby sister of the Kuma boys She is a VERY talented fa’atete player and drummed with us in many shows, competitions and events until she left in 2019 to pursue her degree in music at the university of Oregon. Here's a quick snippet of her playing drums at a competition in Hura Tahiti 2016: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx7V7jjSq_M

This was one of our groups favorite Tumu Parau (Themes). It was the story of Tiare Apetahi and the most memorable thing that happened was a surprise to most of the dancers. They had not practiced with the "actors" ever, so when she died on stage there were real tears all over the stage. Going through these old videos makes us miss Tahiti Fete and being with each other. Stay safe so we could be together again soon!

2007 I didn’t find a lot of pictures from 2007 but I want to share one really special one. Check out this sweet picture of Gerard Rivas and his son Nic. The Rivas family has been a part of our group for probably about 15 years. Janice, Anna, Gerard, Alex, Nic and 4th generation Anaya (SOON!) are more like family. Many of our favorite recent memories include one or all of them. Watching the children of our group grow up is one of the many blessings of having an extended family like ours. Lots of love to the Rivas family and all of the extended families we’ve been fortunate to gain throughout the years.

Funny story about 2008 Tahiti Fete Matete (or Marche) was our tumu parau or theme for the 2008 Tahiti Fete competition. It was about the fresh air market in Tahiti and all of the awesome things you can buy there. We tried to make the staging as realistic as possible, we even built little stands where you could buy stuff, including fresh fish!! Well... the fish was FROZEN when we got there. And it was still defrosting when they told us we were on next, we were actually worried it would look ‘icy’. But the hours that passed between when we took the fish out of the ice until we actually hit the stage were some very hot hours! We started hearing people say ewww... what is that SMELL!?! Thank goodness the actual performances were great, even if we stunk. Yes even the stinky memories are sweet to remember
