WE NEED ALL HANDS ON DECK! #Diversitymatters 42% of schools have no teachers of color (AT ALL) 50% of teachers leave teaching by their 5th year... 22,000 teachers who started teaching this Fall will leave the profession by June. Students of color make-up 42% of the public school population YET teachers of color are only 18% of the teacher workforce Latino/a/x students are 24% of the population, YET only Latino/a/x teachers are only 8% of the teacher workforce 60% of teachers are white women. Teacher education enrollments dropped 35% between 2009 and 2014. Disappointingly, on July 19th Inglewood Unified denied our petition, citing, in part, "Portions of the Petition indicate the Charter School will place an unrealistic level of rigor on its targeted population, so that the program will not be of educational benefit to all students." We fundamentally disagree and believe that all children, regardless of circumstance, can achieve at a high level, especially with the appropriate supports in place. That is what we are offering at ...Polaris Charter Academy for the students and families of Inglewood. That is who we are and that is what we believe, which is why today we filed our appeal to the Los Angeles County Office of Education. We believe that the community deserves a school that will support and push students to be their absolute best. We humbly seek your support as we press forward. Guard against the summer slide! 5 things you can do to keep kids learning during the summer: 1. Visit public libraries. 2. Visit museums or participate at community events.... 3.
