Sustaining resilient landscapes and favorable water flows for recreation is Plumas Corporation’s contribution to the Kern community, who depends on these natural environments and the economies they support. Did you know that one acre of restored meadow can absorb upwards of 40 tons of carbon? That is roughly the amount of carbon emitted from 520,709 round trip shuttle rides for the Lickity Split Run between Riverkern Beach on the upper North Fork Kern River and Frandy Par...Continue reading

Happy Earth Day! Join us in celebrating this wonderful, beautiful planet we call home. Our, Project Manager Teresa Arrate's children, Atlas and Azura, exhibit the joy only a child in nature can, while out helping Mom monitor groundwater wells and plant willows in Mountain Meadows. May we all take a moment to appreciate and share the same joy for our precious Earth, today, tomorrow, and always. Don't forget to donate to Plumas Corp's efforts in the Kern River Watershed through the Give Big Kern fundraising campaign now through May 4th! Make your Earth Day contribution today to help restore our forests, meadows, and streams in the Southern Sierras! #GiveBigKern https://www.givebigkern.org/organizations/plumascorporation

Plumas Corp’s connection to the Kern River Watershed is not just through the work we do to bring back the health and function of degraded meadows and streams. Did you know our Chief Administrative Officer, Gia Pizzino Martynn, grew up in Bakersfield? Gia spent her childhood playing, swimming, and fishing in the Kern River, and completed her Bachelor of Science degree senior project at the Kern River Preserve. After graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo she accepted a fu...ll-time position on the Sequoia National Forest as a biologist from 1990-1997. After moving to northern CA and going to work for Plumas Corp in 2005, she was thrilled for the opportunity to return to her roots and give back to her home watershed. Precipitation levels are low and it looks like we are heading into the third driest year on record in CA. All the more reason Plumas Corps meadow restoration efforts are so important. Our restored meadows are some of the only places there is available surface water for wildlife during these extreme drought periods. Help support our efforts in the southern Sierras by participating in the Give Big Kern fundraising campaign. Every dollar makes each drop of water go a little further to sustain our communities and wildlife. #GiveBigKern https://www.sacbee.com//water-and-dr/article250648394.html

The upper Kern River Watershed delivers the lifeblood of Kern Valley and Kern County. This precious water supports agriculture, threatened fish species, community livelihoods, and world-class recreational opportunities. These waters are also home to three of California’s eight native trout species, including California’s state fish the California Golden Trout. In 2019, Plumas Corp built a fish passage project on Fish Creek at Sherman Pass to rectify the barrier at the road... crossing. The project entailed constructing a stream simulation that resulted in opening up four miles of Fish Creek and its associated upper watershed tributaries in the headwaters of the South Fork Kern River. In addition, it also improved one acre of riparian habitat and one acre of wetland habitat. Our Give Big Kern Fish Creek - South Fork Kern River Campaign will help support successful projects like the Fish Creek Project, helping restore vital golden trout habitat.(https://www.givebigkern.org/campaigns/fish-creek) Photos of Fish Creek Project downstream of road crossing before (2017) and after (2020) construction of the fish passable stream simulation in 2019.
