We continue to celebrate Teacher Appreciation week with some gratitudes for our incredible Y5 Transitional Kindergarten teachers, Benjamin and Lucas. They are pictured here enjoying our spirit week Rainbow Day activities, cuddling with a Playmates friend, and hanging with the children as they play with Tacky Maude. Thank you Benjamin and Lucas, we love you both so much! TK Parent Jeanine says about Benjamin: We appreciate teacher Benjamin to the moon and back.Nobody give...s better snuggles or more loves after a boo boo. Thank you to all of our wonderful Playmates teachers this week and always. And TK parent Ashley says about Lucas: Lucas has been our child's teacher for three years now. They were fairly new at Playmates when we started, and it has been really wonderful to see them grow into their teaching role so beautifully. Lucas is incredibly kind, patient, and caring with all of the children. Lucas has instilled a love of reading in my daughter, and is always so thoughtful about the types of books they bring to the school. Lucas cares deeply about representation, and helps parents foster that care within their own families, too. When the pandemic shut down school, Lucas rode their bike around town to visit the kids, and danced happily with my child to "Into the Unknown" out in front of our home. Or at least, I have never seen it in the 3 years that my daughter ha...s been attending Playmates.She’s always ready with a welcoming smile and friendly hug when it’s needed, and I have never seen a look of frustration cross her face- with the amount of emotional labor involved in caring for children, this is incredible to me! She has a calm, gentle, and comforting way about her that is such a wonderful support to the children and parents alike. Her ability to diffuse conflict and help the children work through situations themselves is admirable.I have learned so much from just observing her and being in her presence and she has helped me to become a better parent.And I love that she can be counted on to come to work in platform flip flops (or boots in cold weather)! For the 2nd day of Teacher Appreciation week we’re spotlighting Teacher Carrie, one of the teachers on the Preschool side. We are so incredibly thankful for Teacher Carrie! She brings such joy and fun to preschool each day and is truly a good friend to each kid there. Some of the favorite stories that circulate my house are when Teacher Carrie dressed up like a hot dog for Halloween or when she flips her hair over her face and becomes Teacher Hairy. She relates so well to all our kids and tirelessly joins them creating the poison soup of the day, chases them during skunk game or just mirrors their overall silliness. Today we’re spotlighting Teacher Kasie, the Lead Teacher on the Preschool side. Here’s a few words about Kasie from preschool parent Alyson: We're grateful for Teacher Kasie. In a challenging year with limited space and resources, Teacher Kasie continues to focus on each child's development, making sure th...at they are getting what they need. She's always switching up activities so kids don't get stuck in their ways, and always makes sure that on the warm, sunny days there's water and often a moat. Kasie is also a reverse pirate, throwing out treasures to all the kids. (rather than hoarding them), and we greatly appreciate her extensive conversations about what's good at Trader Joe’s. Birthdays are always very special at Playmates. The children have a special birthday circle and get to blow out birthday candles and sing their favorite songs. The jump from the land of 3 to 4, or 4 to 5, is the exciting finale and each child leaves the festivities feeling special and celebrated. Hooray for birthdays!

The Y5 TK children made piñatas over the last few weeks and had a blast smashing them open. We have been having so much fun during our Harvest Spirit Week! Yesterday was, Food Day, and in addition to dressing up in wacky outfits that had food on them (lots of jammies apparently) the children made yummy snacks! Cooking snack with the children and eating together family style has always been an integral part of our day Playmates. Because of Covid 19 concerns, that’s shifted to a BYO snack policy and 6 feet socially distanced eating outdoors on picnic blankets. It so wonderful to partake in that shared experience again, albeit a modified version for safety. Preparing the meal together gives the children more ownership over their eating, gives them the opportunity to try unfamiliar foods, and gives them important tactile & sensory opportunities.
