We're migrating our website tonight and that means that planetgranite.com will be down starting at 9pm tonight. This shouldn't affect most things but if you're looking to make a reservation for the next few days - the website will be back up and running tomorrow morning! Thank you so much for your understanding. :)

We have exciting news for our PG Sunnyvale community. We are now offering Lead Check Reservations! No more wondering if a team member is going to be able to do your test when you come in. Now you can see the schedule of available checks online and book just like when you book a gym reservation. Your lead check reservation even counts as your reservation of gym access for that time block as well; no need to make two reservations so that you can stay and climb after your Lead... Check. We will still try to accommodate Lead Check requests on a walk-in basis but right now, availability for walk-ins is low. https://app.rockgympro.com/b/widget/

Here’s a tip at getting better at climbing that involves training just one muscle your brain! Sequencing is pretty straightforward in theory but can take some getting used to in practice. However, it is a great way to save time and energy on the wall and help you make the most of each of your tries on the wall. When you sequence, you're identifying the holds and your positioning on the wall before you start the climb so that when you are on the wall, you can save energy (a...ka more energy for hard moves). Sequencing also helps spot those hard-to-see holds that somehow always seem to be the most important part of the climb. First step of sequencing - locate all your holds on the wall - hand or foot. Second, know which hand you are likely going to be using for each hand (there are generally clues in the direction of the hold but not always!). Third, figure out which foot holds you might use. The last step of sequencing is getting on the wall and adjusting your beta. Maybe a hand hold was a foothold or not as good as you think. The only way to know is to try it out! Have you had an experience when you used your brain rather than brawn? Tell us about it tag #approachingcourage https://hubs.ly/H0NhRvD0

It's near, it's here; it's the end of the year! And what a year it has been! Today, for #throwbackthursday, we are looking back at 2020. This year has been a struggle and it is easy to be bogged down by the disappointments and clipped hopes we may have experienced but that means that it is even more important to dig deep and celebrate all the things you did accomplish. While it may not be as much as you have in previous years, accomplishments are still something to be proud o...f. Some years are like that; you don't get as much done as you would like for reason - time restraints, an injury, a global pandemic. We'd love to hear what you are proud of from 2020 and what you are looking forward to next year! Here's hoping we can push harder in 2021 and build on what we did in 2020!

We doubt anyone really takes a good bolt for granted; we are all happy to see good hardware outside. But, honestly, most of us probably won't ever experience what it takes to replace a bolt and as Jim Herson puts it, "the energy that goes into putting to put in a bolt...is just backbreaking" If you are interested in being a bolt replacement volunteer, we can likely help put you in touch with someone but since most of us won't be doing that, we can say thank you to the volunte...ers who are putting their back into it by making sure they have all the bolts they could ever need. Donate to help the @asca_bolt_replacement get bolts into the hands of volunteers! Donations are being matched up to $20,000 until the end of the year! Let's see how many bolts we can help replace! https://www.safeclimbing.org/

"Oftentimes that experience [climbing outdoors] relies on a trust in safe, fixed protection". We wish that we could always rely on the hardware outside. That there were no bad bolts or old hardware on their last leg, but the reality is that there is no central organization ensuring that bolts are being replaced well and regularly. Most bolts are placed by non-profit groups and volunteers whenever they can and they need help - Bodies to help do the replacements and also the h...ardware- lots and lots of hardware. And the hardware is expensive. That is where @asca_bolt_replacement comes in - they get that hardware to the volunteers and non-profits who are replacing them (and do some of the replacements themselves). They also keep a pretty exhaustive list of where their bolts are going! The American Safe Climbing Association is looking for our help to get bolts to those doing the work. They have donors who are matching anything up to $20k until the end of December so let's help if we can.
