Pinner is excited to announce the completion of the unique Port of Long Beach Fireboat Station #15 project! The construction of new over-water facilities for the Long Beach Fire Department’s Fire Station No. 15 at Pier F includes a new 20,000-square foot fire station building, 11,200-square foot covered fireboat bay enclosure (the first in Port history!), geotechnical improvements, site utilities, stand-by generator, fire pump enclosure, stormwater BMP, landscape, fencing and... hardscape improvements. Our firefighters have always been up to the challenge of serving and protecting the nation’s second-busiest container port. Now we have the best tools available to do it, said Long Beach Fire Chief Xavier Espino in a March 2021 interview with the Port of Long Beach. As part of our salute to this year’s #constructionsafetyweek, we are highlighting a job well done by the entire Port of Long Beach Fireboat Station No. 15 team! Working in construction is naturally accompanied by significant inherent risk; however, our responsibilities get even more precarious when constructing a 40-foot steel structure over water. As far as safety challenges go, our project had them all, from hydrographic surveying to installing piles into the seafloor and a...n interior temporary scaffolded platform that spanned over water. Our approach to ensuring the safety of our personnel, the public and marine life included on-site planning and oversight by our management team, which included a full-time safety representative. We created a positive site-specific safety culture and plan that was implemented by all team members throughout the project. We also complied with the very unique requirements for waterway safety, vessel traffic coordination and the protection of marine life set forth by the USACE, USCG, Port of Long Beach and other regulatory agencies. Our team just wrapped Orange High School’s new Science Complex, the first S.T.E.M. building completed of Orange Unified School District’s Measure S-funded projects. The Panther Pavilion, a two-story, 49,915-square foot facility, is home to technologically advanced chemistry and science labs, classrooms and teaching spaces specifically designed for students with special needs.... Pinner Construction is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of one of our most valued subcontractor’s employees, Kevin Shade. Kevin, a field technician for Advanced Cable Solutions, Inc. (ACS), was involved in a car accident and, though he fought several days to recover, suffered a heart attack and passed away on November 13, 2020. Mike Soucek, Pre-Construction Manager, joined Pinner fresh out of college and, after 14 years, we are proud that he continues to be an integral part of our team. When asked what skills have benefitted him the most in his pre-construction efforts, Mike said: Everything. Pinner takes great pride in supporting the employment of local community members on our projects. That’s why we’re excited to share the story of one of our local hires on the Rancho Cienega Sports Complex Project, a 49,000 SF sports facility in Los Angeles. Corey Kelly, an Apprentice Brick Layer with our DBE/SBE/WBE subcontractor Winegardner Masonry, started in the construction industry just eight months ago after attending a Pinner-sponsored Community Outreach Job Fair at th...e Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall. Shortly after the fair, Corey was so keen on participating that he went through the Union process to become a brick layer and was quickly placed at Rancho Cienega with the help of Transcal Services and Community Build. A member of the local community, Corey said that the Sports Complex is very much the topic of conversation around town. It’s all they talk about. Everybody is excited about it, he said. Corey added that his favorite part about his job is seeing the community invest in a project that will directly benefit them. Pinner is always proud to give back to local communities and is incredibly excited for the joy that this Sports Complex will bring to its community and the local tradesmen who are actively involved in its development. #localhire

Pinner Construction is proud to be the general contractor completing the comprehensive campus revitalization of Dale Junior High School in Anaheim, CA. The $46 million project involves the construction of a new administration, library and classroom building, a new band building, the major modernization of five existing classroom buildings and the adjacent Polaris site. A comprehensive site upgrade, including new infrastructure, shade canopies and outdoor collaborative spaces,... is also a valuable element of the project. As the project progresses, the Pinner team has already successfully turned over three modernized buildings to teachers and students. We are looking forward to completing the Polaris building's in the weeks ahead, which will be used as an online academy for virtual teaching. Throughout the project, our team has collaborated with the District and our industry partners to overcome the challenges related to extensive modernizations. Our partnerships and industry-leading problem-solving capabilities continues to keep the project completion date on schedule. Today, Pinner’s own NAWIC chapter donated 50 backpacks filled with a variety of school supplies in support of A Place Called Home’s Backpack to School drive! A Place Called Home is an organization that provides arts, education and wellness programs for South Central Los Angeles’ youth. They are dedicated to helping young people improve their economic conditions and develop healthy, fulfilling and purposeful lives. Pinner Construction was excited to provide construction management services for the successful completion of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District - NMUSD Estancia High School Aquatic Center. Prior to our engagement in the project, the District had an unusable existing pool and a design completed that was unbuildable due to budget constraints. Pinner’s partnership with the District resulted in a refreshed approach that involved retaining specific industry professionals to combat unique challenges by element through the use of appropriate delivery methods, (e.g., design-build for the new 50-meter Olympic-sized swimming pool and design-bid-build for the adjacent locker room, team room and coaches offices). Check out one of Pinner’s most collaborative projects! In 2014, our team worked closely with the Citrus Community College District to construct a 36,938-square foot Fine Arts Complex at Citrus Community College in Glendora, California. #ThrowbackThursday What made this project so successful was the teamwork from all sides. By establishing effective leadership and trust, we achieved an incredibly high level of collaboration and partnership from every player, said Mike Soucek..., who served as the Project Manager. It was an eye-opening experience to see how much can be accomplished when everyone is working together to achieve a common goal. Completed in 2016, the new three-story building included offices, meeting rooms, counseling rooms, administrative spaces and restrooms. This was one of the best projects I’ve been on, said Roxanne Couture, Project Engineer. We developed such a special relationship with the District. They invited us to all of their cookouts, barbecues, school events, retirement parties and holidays. The Dean would stop by for coffee and the District’s inspector shared clippings from plants because he knew we loved having an office garden. We still keep in touch!

Pinner Construction is wrapping up the modernization of the auditorium and gymnasium for L.A.U.S.D.’s Eagle Rock High School. This project featured extensive seismic retrofitting and included more than 30,000 cubic feet of compaction grouting, HVAC modernization, and the construction of new lockers, flooring, bleachers and seating. The project challenges were met head-on through a collaborative partnership with our subcontractors, LAUSD and the three design teams that worked ...concurrently and were each responsible for a separate DSA package. As a result of pre-planning and partnerships, the team met the challenge of compaction grouting in rooms with raised floors, limited access and varying grades. The structural upgrades also included extensive coordination of abatement and Fiber Reinforced Polymer work. This 2014 Newport-Mesa Unified School District - NMUSD project brought out the best in our teams, epitomizing collaboration during all phases. This was IT. A project that defined best practices in teamwork and partnership. The ability to openly confide in one another, work together to overcome obstacles, and work through situations w...ith the CM, architect, Pinner and NMUSD was happening to a degree that I’d never before experienced, Project Superintendent Justin Jenkins said. The LEED Silver-certified Corona Del Mar High School Theatre project consisted of a new single-story, 29,000-square foot performing arts classroom building. It contains structural steel columns and beams with brace frame lateral systems, a metal roof deck and a concrete-filled metal deck at the mechanical well. The building also includes student performance prep spaces, restrooms, support areas, theatrical rigging, lighting and sound systems. This project didn’t miss a beat. Pinner constructed a beautiful building on an active campus with very tight logistical constraints, Project Manager Karl Thorp said. #PinnerConstruction

Hand-in-hand with LAUSD, Pinner Construction recently celebrated the successful completion of the Olive Vista Middle School Project, which involved new construction of the physical education and multi-purpose buildings. Olive Vista was the first project out of DSA and first to be completed using funds from Prop 1D, which provided new dollars for seismic mitigation of the most vulnerable school facilities. Our team led the construction of a new single-story physical educatio...n building, which includes a gymnasium, locker rooms, fitness room and faculty offices. Our work also involved the development of a new state-of-the art performing arts building, consisting of a kitchen and indoor/outdoor dining area. Additionally, Pinner delivered various site improvements, new parking lots, turf field and outdoor learning and collaboration spaces. The team expected the best, planned for the worst and was prepared to be surprised throughout the execution of the project. They also had fun while doing it! Pinner, the District and the design team had a daily 1 p.m. ice cream break! It was 15 to 20 minutes that everyone could set everything aside and enjoy being together. It also made a huge difference within the project and built a highly positive relationship among the District, Pinner and the design team just over 15 minutes of ice cream! Getting out of the box for a few minutes a day can change the whole dynamic of a project and boost a team’s morale, making the everyday challenges fun again! And that’s exactly what it did, Project Executive Robert Boyington said.

Our Port of Long Beach Fire Station #15 project is well underway! The team has installed more than 6,800 LF of 24 octagonal concrete piles into the sea floor to support the Fireboat Bay.
