Officer J. Singh stopped a vehicle last night for not having license plates. After a records check revealed the driver was on parole and the passenger had an outstanding warrant. A search of the vehicle revealed burglary tools and a catalytic converter. Both subjects were placed under arrest.

Around 6:00 this morning, our ALPR cameras alerted dispatchers to a felony wanted vehicle that was connected to a robbery in Lafayette. Officers were quick to respond to the area and found the vehicle occupied and parked with its lights off. They were able to take both subjects into custody and recovered two guns from the vehicle that were later determined to be replicas. The driver was taken into custody for warrants and robbery and turned over to Contra Costa County Investigators. The passenger was taken into custody for possession of stolen mail & shaved keys and a probation violation and booked at Santa Rita Jail. Piedmont PD is thankful this situation ended safely and we’re glad to have to assisted Lafayette PD, @LafayettePD. #ProtectingPiedmont

Our communities’ investment in ALPR cameras and our officer's proactive police work paid off last night. A stolen car has been delivered back to its owner, another towed and awaiting return and a third theft prevented. Our officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle entering Piedmont last night and while responding to the area found the vehicle parked on Hillside. As they approached a subject exited the vehicle and started running. Officer Swanson was able to take him into cust...ody and he was booked at Santa Rita Jail. The vehicle was towed and will be returned to its owner. A little later in the evening, one of our officers was patrolling Hazel Lane when he saw someone trying to break into a car with a getaway vehicle and driver waiting nearby. The officer conducted a check and discovered the getaway car was stolen out of Oakland. The first suspect jumped in the getaway car and took off before dumping the car nearby. A second suspect who had exited the vehicle was taken into custody. The officers did a thorough check of the area, but could not find the driver. However, they did locate the vehicle and inside they found stolen mail, a shaved key, suspected methamphetamine, and pipes. We were happy to return the stolen car to the owner right there at the scene. #ProtectingPiedmont See more

Alameda County Returns to the Purple Tier California public health officials have lifted the regional stay-at-home order for the Bay Area region and Alameda County has returned to the Purple Tier of the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/ . This allows certain businesses which were closed during the more restrictive order to resume operations, including outdoor dining at restaurants. In addition, small, time-limited outdoor gatherings ...with members of up to three families are now permitted. You can look here, https://covid-19.acgov.org/.../press-release-2021.01.25.pdf to read the press release, and go to the Alameda County Public Health Department website, https://covid-19.acgov.org/index.page for further information. Community members must continue to comply with COVID-19 orders and undertake common sense safety precautions to protect families, friends and neighbors from this debilitating and deadly virus and to reopen more activities: wear masks whenever leaving home, keep at least six feet of distance from anyone you don’t live with, wash hands frequently, and stay home if you don’t feel well.

On October 15, 2020, approximately 8 pm, a reported stolen vehicle entered the city and was located on Oakland Avenue. Officer Seumalo initiated a high risk stop, which occurred on Highland near Piedmont Court. The driver of the vehicle complied and was detained. The investigation determined the driver had a personal relationship with the victim who reported the vehicle stolen. Contact was made with the victim and this relationship was confirmed. The vehicle was towed an...d the driver was released from the scene, as paperwork was provided to believe this was a civil matter. Furthermore, it was determined that the driver had been in the process of delivering food to a residence in Piedmont. Officer Seumalo made good on delivering the food to the appropriate residence, bringing a smile to a hungry resident. Way to go above and beyond Officer Seumalo!

Playgrounds to Reopen. Beginning on Friday, October 16th, playgrounds in Piedmont Parks will re-open! The rules will be simple: https://www.cdph.ca.gov///COVID-19/Playgrounds_English.pdf... Bathrooms will be reopened as well. We’re relying on all Piedmonters to follow the rules and use these spaces safely, to protect each other from COVID-19. Parents and caregivers will need to closely monitor children to ensure the rules are followed. The City will not have monitors at the playground sites. If rules are not followed, these spaces may need to be closed again.

Crime Prevention Alert We want to make our community aware of a crime trend hitting the Bay Area. Suspects are shutting off power at the external circuit breaker box so they can burglarize homes. Around 7p.m. on Saturday night, three people were seen on surveillance cameras casing homes on the 100 block of King Avenue. One of the suspects went into the backyard, opened the circuit breaker box, and turned off power to the home. Fortunately, the group was scared off and le...ft in a vehicle. The Police Department would like to encourage residents to lock your box by locking their circuit breaker boxes. All you need is a simple padlock. If you need assistance, please contact one of our Community Service Officers at (510) 420-3000. #lockyourbox #ProtectingPiedmont

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Although we all have a lot on our minds right now, we could not let this month get away without acknowledging all those impacted by breast cancer. You’ve probably seen these pink patches and badges around town as our officer’s support and honor those affected by this disease. Many of us have been touched personally by this disease and we want you to know that we stand with you! #pinkpatchproject #cancerawareness

September is Pedestrian Safety Month More people are out walking and exercising than we have seen in years. We need to look out for one another. It’s the least we can do in these unprecedented times. Piedmont PD would like to share some tips below provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety. Safety tips for pedestrians: Make yourself visible: wear bright colored clothes and carry a flashlight if you are walking at night.... Avoid dangerous behaviors: always walk on the sidewalk (no jaywalking), stay sober and make eye contact with drivers don’t assume the driver can see you. Stay off your phones, talking and especially texting distracts you from paying attention to your surroundings. Look before you step: cross streets at marked crosswalks/intersections, obey traffic signals and watch for turning vehicles. Look left-right-left before crossing a street. Safety tips for drivers: Don’t speed, follow the speed limit and never use your phone; always be cautious of your surroundings. Never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Look out for pedestrians, especially in hard-to-see conditions such as at night or in bad weather. Pedestrians have the right of way at any crosswalk or intersection, so yield and be prepared to stop. Stop at the crosswalk stop line to give drivers in other lanes an opportunity to see and yield to pedestrians too. Be cautious when backing up pedestrians, especially young children, can move across your path. See more
