Meet Michael who was the artist selected to create sculptural seating for the Broadway Streetscape Project. It is wonderful to see public art that functions as a social object. The Broadway sculptural seating not only references the clouds that are so symbolic to the culture of the district, but also represents a prominent feature of San Francisco: the fog. The most rewarding thing for me is that almost as soon as we installed the benches, the neighborhood people were using... them to relax and enjoy themselves. I love seeing older people in the community take breaks to chat with one another and seeing tourists take selfiesit really shows that the cultural richness of the district is appreciated by all who pass through. This project is a long-time effort that began with the community's vision for a safer, more livable neighborhood. Improvements include a reconfigured roadway to calm traffic, new concrete sidewalks, freshly planted trees, new bus shelters and curbside bus bulbs, new pedestrian-scale lighting, and decorative crosswalks. The Transportation Authority provided about $2.5 million in funding from San Francisco's half-cent sales tax, $1.6 million in Prop AA funds, and other regional funds. #SalesTaxStories #SFTransportationTax #ChinatownSF #SanFrancisco

Residents from the Bayview and Hunter’s Point neighborhoods have expressed a desire to re-establish the 15 Third Street Muni bus route. We are partnering with SFMTA | San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to assess the options for an express service in the corridor. The Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal Expansion Project is now open - this San Francisco Bay Ferry and The Port of San Francisco project added two new ferry gates and constructed a new 13,000-square-foot plaza. The Downtown Extension Rail Project will bring trains from the 4th+King Caltrain station to the Salesforce Transit Center. SFMTA has completed the District 3 Pedestrian Safety Study as requested by our Chair Aaron Peskin.
