Here's the story of how the Gift of Giving Project started. I was looking to do something bigger than I could imagine I could do. So back in 2011 I started by r...esearching the best organization to do this with. I found this great person Fredrick Mwaura in Kenya. He managed a boys orphanage (Joy Divine Children ) on top of supporting many others in his community. Together we tried for 1.5 years to raise funds for this mission to build a library. We already had the books donation thanks to Dollar Books & a Thrift Store and the North Hollywood community. However, we had challenges getting anyone to help us with the cost to make this happen. In 2013, I was introduced to a Ugandan lady at a rotary club meeting I attended in Calabasas and she was eager to take on my books/library project. Shortly after meeting her, she said to me that the only way she can dedicate her time to this project was if I moved it to Uganda. With no resources in Kenya, I sadly had to accept her offer and move my project to Uganda. This same Ugandan organization misused the funding allocated to the #GiftofGivingProject only allowing me to ship 60 boxes of books and no hope of building that library "right now". I wasn't giving up! Thankfully I have a few supportive friends that helped with this journey. You know who you are :) Thank you again! I reached out to Fred upon arriving in Uganda. He was happy to hear from me and although I was not able to build a library in Kenya right now, I am able to make a books donation... keeping part of my promise.
