Today I was supposed to be getting on a plane bound for NYC to do a concert at Town Hall (a dream of mine come true). A concert that my friend Hal Wilner was helping me put together. We lost Hal a couple of weeks ago to the virus. In the...se times of hardship, sadness, and loss it's good to know that we can still find comfort and hope in a song. In the early 1980’s I attended an event at The Los Angeles Music Center. It was to be the first time I would hear a mesmerizing young singer named Perla Batalla.... She sang a song in Spanish about enduring unbearable sorrow; how pain and heartbreak are perhaps what make us human most of all. I fell in love with the singer in the red dress that night, and over the past 3+ decades, listened to this song at least ten thousand times. Its simple beauty still leaves me speechless. Update: Perla’s entire touring season has been canceled.
