Additional information from SNR on the failure of County CEO Nav Gill to properly allocate resources and on the sheriff who was more than happy to take those resources knowing that the health dept wouldn't be adequately funded during a pandemic.

People's Budget Sacramento 09.11.2020

Local coverage on the story surrounding County CEO Navdeep Gill who, along with Sheriff Jones, displayed serious lack of judgment when they prioritized dumping covid money into the sheriff dept and denied requests for funding to the County Health Dept....in the middle of a global pandemic.

County CEO Nav Gil has apparently grossly mismanaged COVID funds. This includes directing nearly 75% of the county COVID funds to the sheriff while rejecting vital health services funding requests. It's very likely that these decisions cost lives. It's clear he has poor management skills. Please read and sign on if you feel so moved. Disgusting misuse of covid funds to pad the Sacramento County sheriff's budget. While vital requests from the county health department were going unfunded! This is gross negligence on behalf of both Nav Gill County CEO who should know better and the Sheriff who was fine with accepting that money knowing the loss in funding to the health department.

On Tuesday, November 3 the county Board of Supervisors will hear a report on alternatives to 911 for responding to calls regarding mental health and homelessness. We need you to call in and have your voice heard. There is a link in comments to information surrounding this as well as key demands that we have with regards to the system. The initial offer was for $1.5 million to take away a good chunk of the sheriffs work and reroute it to another department. The issue with that... is that, given the amount of work that is being redirected, the budgeted number needs to be much higher. If this alternative is to have any chance at success it needs to be appropriately funded. Please read the document linked in comments. It’s only two pages, it’s pretty straightforward, and it will give you a good idea of what has been going on and what we are requesting. #DefundThePolice #DefendBlackLives #GiveItBack #PeoplesBudget #PeoplesBudgetSac #DivestToInvest #CareNotCops

Rich Desmond running for District 3 County Supervisor put out an anti-semitic mailer of Gregg Fishman also running for that position. It features a faked body with Greg's head in a stereotypical pose often attributed to Jewish people in cartoons. It's gross. It's dog-whistling and he needs to apologize.

Important information on Measure C

Willie Brown was found hanging from a basketball hoop on Monday, October 19th. The sheriffs did a cursory look at the area over the course of an hour and determined it was a suicide. This following a string of these across multiple states after the George Floyd protests began. Nearly every time they've ruled it a suicide and done no further investigation. This isn't a coincidence that these "suicides" look a lot like lynchings used once to keep black folks in their place. The... least the police could've done would've been to contact the family and question if this was typical behavior. They could've secured the scene for longer to ensure vital evidence didn't disappear. But they didn't. They could've taken notice of a Trump rally and a "Back the Blue" rally that happened nearby and questioned organizers, questioned participants...anything. But they didn't. They take nearly 40% of our general fund, cost millions in abuse payments, and can't be bothered to do an investigation into the apparent lynching of a black man. Anyone think this level of concern would fly in East Sac? Rancho Murieta? Nah...of course it wouldn't. Because the rich and white...get crimes solved. The poor and minorities don't. Please call the FBI, demand an investigation into the hanging and into the sheriff for their ease with which they declared it suicide without any thorough investigation. Willie deserves at least that much so his family can have closure and not dismissal. They deserve better. Our community deserves better. #DefundThePolice #DefendBlackLives #GiveItBack #PeoplesBudget #PeoplesBudgetSac #DivestToInvest #CareNotCops
