What if??? Many are stressed about cancelling the rest of the school year, students will miss 2.5 months of education. Many people are concerned about students falling behind because of this. Yes, they may fall behind when it comes to classroom education...... But what if... What if instead of falling behind", this group of kids are ADVANCED because of this? Hear me out... What if they have more empathy, they enjoy family connection, they can be more creative and entertain themselves, they love to read, they love to express themselves in writing. What if they enjoy the simple things, like their own backyard and sitting near a window in the quiet. What if they notice the birds and the dates the different flowers emerge, and the calming renewal of a gentle rain shower? What if this generation are the ones to learn to cook, organize their space, do their laundry, and keep a well run home? What if they learn to stretch a dollar and to live with less? What if they learn to plan shopping trips and meals at home. What if they learn the value of eating together as a family and finding the good to share in the small delights of the everyday? What if they are the ones to place great value on our teachers and educational professionals, librarians, public servants and the previously invisible essential support workers like truck drivers, grocers, cashiers, custodians, logistics, and health care workers and their supporting staff, just to name a few of the millions taking care of us right now while we are sheltered in place? What if among these children, a great leader emerges who had the benefit of a slower pace and a simpler life to truly learn what really matters in this life? What if they are AHEAD? (Copied and pasted from a friend but too good not to share! )

It is best to wean your baby from the pacifier by 6 months of age; but if your toddler is still using one...read on! Weaning a toddler from the pacifier can be ...a challenging task...but the sooner you do it, the better off your child’s oral facial and dental health will be! Here are some tips to saying bye-bye to the paci: Introduce a transition object (aka lovey) to offer in lieu of the pacifier. Add the new lovey to the bedtime routine. The lovey may be a stuffed animal, baby doll, or super soft blanket. Wrap it in a special package with a big bow and make a BIG deal about this new amazingly important lovey! Establish a consistent bedtime routine and FOLLOW it. Your child likely associates the pacifier with sleepy time...so create a bedtime routine that triggers to your child that sleepy time is approaching. Your routine may look something like this: bath, jammies, brush teeth, final drink of water, read two stories, turn lights off, turn nightlight on, get special lovey, rock for 5 minutes, get in bed, goodnight kiss. Read books about saying bye-bye to the pacifier. Doing so will help your child understand that this happens to other kids too. Talk about weaning away from the pacifier for 2-3 weeks before you actually do it. Write it on the calendar, count down the days, and talk about the plan every day. We have to drop the pacifiers off at the doctor’s office (or any other location you decide) for other babies to use, and then we’ll go get ice cream (or some other special treat or toy). Talk about it ahead of time. Prepare your child for the upcoming transition and then JUST DO IT! Give ALL the pacifiers away. They cannot be in the house or in the diaper bag or in the car or it will NOT work. Be prepared for a few rough nights. But if you are consistent and don’t give in, your child will adapt to the new bedtime routine...with firm but loving support from the entire family. If your child wakes up asking for the pacifier, offer the lovey as reassurance instead. Easy? No. Important? Yes. Good luck parents...you’ve got this! . . . #cariebertseminars #slpsofinstagram #instaslp #speechies #earlyintervention #speechtherapy
