With over fifty years of experience as a professional dancer, teacher and examiner of Classical Ballet, Sandra Burnham brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to The Pegler Conservatory. As a young, pre-professional student, she danced with The Royal Ballet’s Ballet For All touring group, but when she grew to be too tall for the corps de ballet, she auditioned and was accepted into the world-famous ‘Bluebell Girls’ at the Lido de Paris, where she danced for seven years. ...It was during this time, while living in Paris, that she began working as a high-end fashion model. In 1969, she moved to New York City and continued her career in haute couture modeling. While continuing her ballet training at the renowned Igor Youskevitch Dance Studio, she was appointed to the position of Production Assistant at NBC-TV. In 1974, Sandra returned to live in England where she opened her own highly successful ballet school. Throughout her twenty-three years as a teacher and studio owner, she became a respected and internationally acclaimed teacher and was invited to become an Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance in 1988. She has subsequently taught and examined in Australia, Brazil, The Caribbean, China, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and the United States. Since returning to live in the United States in 1998, she has mounted several productions of "Graduation Ball" and The Nutcracker, as well as teaching on many intensives, summer schools, and coaching for competitions. Sandra has an international reputation for excellence and her work is noted for the combination of technical clarity and individual interpretation. Her disciplined style, together with her care and compassion for her students and colleagues, is just one her many wonderful qualities.
