Happy Valentine’s Day from Peekadoodle!

There was a fun chill in the air as our school explored all things Winter. Earth tones of the Fall transitioned into the cool colors of snow and ice. Scientific discovery was had in every class as we learned about what creates snow and observed the freezing of water as well as the melting of ice and what may hasten or slow down the process. Ice itself was used as an art medium, either through freezing paint or painting ice cubes themselves. There was even the joy of creating frozen treats and of course even more joy when we got to eat them! Stay tuned as our cool colors melt away in to the warm reds and pinks of Lunar New Year and the love shared in February.

Peekadoodle's February Tuesday Teacher Takeover features the patient and warm-hearted Assistant Teacher for our 4 year old Kendi class, Ms Lori. A San Francisco native, Ms Lori joined our Peekadoodle team in the Fall of 2021. Having worked as a behavioral therapist, Ms. Lori brings to the classroom a unique strength in her ability to support the social and emotional development of her students. During free play, Ms Lori is especially skilled at responding in a nurturing and e...mpathetic manner to help students navigate and resolve conflicts by listening and learning from one another. The Kendi Kangaroo students are drawn to her amazingly compassionate, calm and caring nature. Ms Lori loves to plan creative and interactive science activities in her classroom curriculum as well as encourage important imaginative and dramatic play amongst her students. We celebrate the new year by taking a peek inside of our 2 year old Fulton classroom! Our year long goal for the Fulton Frogs is to develop a sense of routine, thereby fostering the independence and confidence that comes from the comfort of structured school days. Our Fulton students also begin to move away from the parallel play of toddlerhood and form connections and relationships within the classroom. Our youngest Academy class is introduced to the fundamentals of early childhood education through sensory exploration, tactile play and the introduction of new art and school materials. It is always rewarding to see the immense progress and development the Fulton Frog students make as they grow into their independent school selves as well as valued members of their class and school community.

Sweet and bittersweet feelings are all around us right now at Peekadoodle as we wrap up the academic school year. We said good bye to our cherished Prep class as they ended the school year with messy and stimulating art and sensory experiences. They also sang and played music daily and said a fond farewell to their class butterflies that they observed for a month grow and change from caterpillars. Kendi is completing their year long author study by becoming authors as well as... illustrators themselves and working on their very own books. Oswald has been reflecting on highlights from the past year and gearing up for graduation. Margaret also celebrated the release of their butterflies by making the magical and delicious Butterfly Pea Flower lemonade. Our June Tuesday Teacher Takeover celebrates our beloved and incomparable Ms Alta! Ms Alta has been a part of the Peekadoodle community since 2012, right after she moved here from her native Mongolia. She started as part of our maintenance staff all while taking both ESL and Early Childhood Education classes. In 2014 she began her teaching career with us, starting as a substitute but soon becoming as assistant teacher with our Prep class where she taught for 6 years before jo...ining the Margaret Moles this year. She also became a mother herself in the spring of 2020! Ms Alta keeps every aspect of Peekadoodle organized and running smoothly and does it all with her signature warmth and humor. She truly embodies the Peekadoodle spirit by consistently creating a stimulating and caring environment with clear boundaries for the students to freely explore. See more in our stories!

Explore our 2500 sq. ft. play area and activities!

The Oswald class released their butterflies yesterday! The class has been observing their life cycle for a month in the classroom and it was a bittersweet moment to see them fly away. We will miss them, but we’re happy to see them find a new home!

Spring has sprung here at Peekadoodle as all our classes were busy studying the various bugs and insects of the season and in particular butterflies! While art and science projects in every classroom reflected a variety of ways to think about and celebrate these crawling and flying creatures we also were in the midst of scientific observation. Each class has been patiently watching their own caterpillars grow, transform in to chrysalides and slowly begin to emerge as butterflies! Check out more in our stories!

Our Oswald Class toy drive is off to a great start! Please help our Oswald class deepen their lesson in responsibility and in helping others by supporting our toy drive. We'll be accepting donations of gently used or new toys and books through Friday, June 4th. All toys will be donated to The Bayview Mission, a nonprofit that provides services and supplies to residents in the Bayview/Hunters Point. Please bring your donations during drop-off and pick-up.
