Rachel Shur, the network’s founder and execut...ive director, felt it was important to recognize a local business that supported the grassroots organization during the nontraditional 2020 holiday season. The cancer organization usually offers its annual holiday gift wrapping service at The Oaks mall but was unable to last year due to the pandemic. A longtime business owner and friend of Shur’s, Coburn offered her store location for the pop-up holiday service. She also brought in business associates, friends and family members to volunteer and wrap gifts. COVID-19 safety protocols were followed. UCAAN plans to give the award every year to people and businesses in the community that go above and beyond the call of duty to help the local organization. Moorpark-based UCAAN fills the needs, large and small, of cancer patients, helping anyone with any form of cancer, any age, nationwide.
