Your slowest brainwaves are called delta brainwaves, with the greatest amplitude and slowest frequency. They typically center around a range of 1.5 to 4 cycles per second and signify deep, dreamless sleep. Sometimes, especially following head injury, the brain produces an excess of delta waves, even when you're awake. This excess of delta can slow you down. Luckily, you can use neurofeedback to re-regulate these patterns of brain activity! If you think a head injury might be slowing down your brain performance, a QEEG with Peak Brain can tell you what's going on.

Ever been driving on the highway and suddenly realize you can't recall the last 5 miles? Or 50? "Highway hypnosis" refers to the mysterious sense of floating away while driving long stretches of highway. While a curvy country road need you to pay attention to stay safe, and therefore promote high frequency beta waves associated with alertness, the monotony of the highway can switch your brain into a theta state. Theta waves (see our last post!) are associated with daydreaming, and are often responsible for "ah-ha" moments of insight! Many Peak Brain clients use Alpha-Theta training to induce this brainwave state as a creative performance enhancement! Want to give it a try? Call now to set up your FREE consultation. 855-88-BRAIN.

Theta waves are characteristic of the state of mind spanning between light daydreaming and nearly falling asleep. Studies have found that many individuals with #ADHD show a pattern of brain electrical activity called "cortical slowing." It refers to elevated levels of theta waves and reduced (higher frequency) beta waves in the prefrontal cortex. #Neurofeedback can specifically target cortical slowing, permanently changing your theta:beta ratio. Could neurofeedback help you or a member of your family?

Most people want to feel total control over their performance, but peak performers know it's all about trusting yourself. Practice, especially #deliberatepractice, should be done with a lot of control and self-awareness. There's a stronger influence of the left brain when we practice. But performance is a time for all that practice to integrate, and it's essential to relax into #flowstate. Right brain. Neurofeedback trains the brain how to better switch between these two depending on the situation.

Breath-work refers to breathing exercises or techniques used to control the breath, used to improve mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. What's different between voluntary and involuntary breathing at the level of the brain? During voluntary (controlled) breathing, the neuronal signals from the cortex override and replace the involuntary signals that originate in the brainstem that normally control the breathing muscles. This quote comes from @andrewhillphd's episode of the Habits & Hustle podcast. Often issues like ADHD, OCD, etc., crop up because of real psychological reasons. Therapy can help you understand what those reasons are, and how to process them in a healthy way. But therapy will not get rid of the impulsivity that you feel as a consequence of your brain activity. Neurofeedback "gets your brain out of the way," allowing the work the psychologically processing you do in therapy have a much deeper impact. In fact, many local therapists and clinicians send their patients and clients to see us at @peakbrainla exactly because of the incredible results we help them achieve. Whatever your goals are, your peak brain will get you there faster. Shift happens, get yours. Listen to full episode here -->bit.ly/2VrxDgS

Teens who endure bullying don't just face problematic psychological development, but problematic physical brain development as well, further impacting mental health. Research shows structural differences in the brains of adolescents who are regularly victimized, specifically decreased volume in the brain's caudate and putamen, areas associated with reward sensitivity, motivation, conditioning, attention, and emotional processing. The researchers found that these structural differences partly explain the relationship between high peer victimization and higher levels of general anxiety. Bullying is abuse, with real consequences. If you are a victim or a witness of bullying, say something.

Chronic pain can have a widespread impact on overall brain function--like cognitive, psychological, and structural brain functions. For example, chronic pain often presents with other issues like depression, anxiety and sleep disturbances. This happens because the cortical regions of the brain that process the perception of pain itself are connected to a variety of other systems and functions of the brain. Neurofeedback can re-regulate how your brain processes pain. When our clients use neurofeedback to address their chronic pain, they often experience the improvement of their other issues as well, because of this interconnectedness of the brain. Do you suffer from chronic pain? Shift happens, get yours at Peak Brain.
