Firefall at Yosemite National Park 2021

Fotobeginner USA 13.05.2021

() In Feb every year, hundreds, if not thousands, of photographers gather in Yosemite National Park looking for a once-a-year event - the Firefall (a.k.a. Lavafall). Our photography instructor Alex was there two months ago and took some amazing Firefall photos. It is not hard to capture this magnificent event if you are well prepared. Here are some tips:... 1. The Firefall will appear during sunset. However you have to go EARLY to claim a spot as the number of good spots are very limited. Many of them have trees to block the view. So spare the whole day just for this event. Arrive the spot as early as 12 noon. 2. If possible, bring two cameras and two lens (with two tripods of course) so you don't need to change lens as the Firefall will come and go quickly. Every second counts. 3. In order to capture a close shot, bring telephoto lens. I used 70-200mm + 200-500mm. 4. Use manual mode (M-mode), ISO 100, aperture f/8, then use shutter speed to control the brightness. Make sure the Firefall itself is not over-exposed or your photo will be ruined. Sometimes you may find other parts of the photo too dark when the fireball has correct exposure. If this is the case, you can increase the brightness of the dark area by editing RAW file. Remember to shoot in RAW by the way. 5. If you are using Av-mode, you can set the metering mode to "spot metering", placing the focus point on Firefall so the exposure will be correct all the time. 6. Take close and wide shot if possible, depending on the focal length of your lens. In next February, I hope the pandemic will pass and we can take photos together! () Malibu in Southern California is famous for its 21-mile strip of the Malibu coast and homes of Hollywood celebrities. When I walked along the coast trail, I spot a man standing just beside a cliff, and I know it's the moment to take a picture on him. So I took out my iPhone and captured this. There are a few points to note when you do the composition: 1) Use negative space. Try to leave a massive amount of empty space around the man. Just leave the man as a sma...ll spot in the photo. This will create a "focus". 2) Don't over-expose the sky. If you are shooting with your phone, remember to turn on the HDR function on it. If you are shooting by camera or DSLR, try to shoot in RAW format so you can reveal the clouds later in post-editing software. 3) Where should you put the "man"? Remember, there is a direction for the rock. So it's better to follow the path and put the rock (and the man) at the bottom right side. (, ) Do you know the world's most expensive photograph sold was shot in Antelope Canyon, AZ? The price is $6.5m! So as a photography enthusiast, it will be definitely a loss if you do not have a piece of work of Antelope Canyon in your collection. However, taking a good photo in such a great place has a few points to note. Let me explain below: 1) Do not change your lens frequently - It is dusty in the canyon, dirt or sand in the air will easily get into y...our camera. 2) Do not use prime lens - Although prime lens can provide more superior quality, it is recommended to use zoom lens (e.g. 16-35mm or 24-70mm) in the canyon due to the first reason. It is more convenient in terms of composition. 3) Join the tour for photographer - Even you need to pay higher fee, you will get a lot more time and flexibility by joining photographer tour so you can enjoy shooting inside instead of be pushed to move forward. 4) Permission to use tripod - If you join the photographer tour, you MAY be allowed to use tripod so the aperture can be smaller and ISO can be lower. Please read the rules before you book the tour. Fotobeginner USA is going to organize Photography Road Trip - for sure Antelope Canyon is one of the main attractions. () ? For some beginners, taking stunning, impressive picture on a starry night seems an unreachable dream. However, with a little secret on setting the camera and focusing, you can easily make the dream come true. Here is a list of few steps for shooting a Star Trails photograph: 1) Install your widest lens with largest aperture (I was using Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G when I took this photo) 2) Set your camera to Manual Mode (M-Mode)... 3) Set your aperture to widest (e.g. f/1.8), shutter speed not longer than 25s and ISO to 800 or higher, depending on the ambiance light. 4) Turn your camera to manual focus and set to infinity <--- This is tricky and important. Try a few more times to make sure you get it right 5) Start shooting You need to use a tripod and shutter cable with timer (recommended) and take 100 to 150 photos continuously. Then combine all the photos with some free software like StarStax (Download link in comment section). Joshua Tree National Park 1) ( Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G ) 2) (M-Mode) 3) ( f/1.8) 25 ISO 800-1600 () 4) <-- 5) 100 150 ( StarStax) --- https://zh.fotobeginnerusa.com/course/ #startrails # # #fotobeginner #

() "" is located just beside Houtong Station, Taiwan. There are tons of cats wandering around. The best part is that most of them are not afraid of human beings. You can touch them, hug them (beware of their sharp claw though) and, of course, take pictures on them. It is a must-go location in Taiwan if you are a cat lover , just like me! Referring to the photo below, I would like to share two points when you take similar photos:... 1) I used a 200mm tele lens to take the shot. The reason is not unable to get closer, but I wanted to utilize the compression effect by a 200mm. You can see the outcome from the wall the cat is laying on. 2) I used Spot Metering + AE-L (Exposure Lock) instead of evaluative metering to ensure the cat's face is correctly exposed. Of course, you can also use +/- EV function to accomplish the same result. I just saved the hassle by changing the metering directly. 1) 200mm 200mm 2) AE-L() +/- EV --- https://zh.fotobeginnerusa.com/course/ #cat #catlover # # # #nikon #D810 #fotobeginnerusa #fotobeginner #

() The mysterious Death Valley is located at Eastern California. It is the hottest place ON EARTH [with world record highest air temperature of 134F (57C)] and driest place in North America. That said, Death Valley is a great place for star photography due to its darkness and dry air. With a proper foreground, you can easily take a stunning star photo in this desert valley.
