Natalie explains, As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I am privileged with the opportunity to help individuals struggling to maintain their mental health and emotional state of wellbeing during this global crisis. In the recent weeks, I hav...e worked with people who are overcome with fear of economic instability after losing their jobs, feelings of helplessness for being unable to comfort sick family members, or guilt for having lashed out at loved ones while trying to observe social distancing measures. One of the ways I try to do is help people find meaning to the grief they are experiencing. I remind them that when this ends they will emerge a strengthened version of themselves, hold a deeper understanding of what is important to them, and find themselves engaged in more meaningful connections with others. Ultimately, my role as a mental health provider during COVID-19 is to help others see themselves not just as who they are in this pandemic, but also who they can be.
