"If you fish for wild trout, you also must advocate for forests that keep streams shaded and free of silt. If you fish for stripers, you fight for the freshwater rivers where they spawn and the salt marshes where their young develop. If you chase wild salmon or steelhead, you are inherently anti-dam. I proudly accepted this credo. Read Stephen Sautner’s story here: https://pat.ag/AnglerVoteFB Photos: Jay Beyer, Keri Oberly

Southeast Alaskans overwhelmingly support keeping the Tongass National Forest roadless and protected from logging. But the Trump administration announced yesterday it will open up all 16.7 million acres of the world’s largest intact temperate rainforest to logging and other forms of development. This threatens the livelihoods of southeast Alaskans, endangers a critical ecosystem and furthers the climate crisis. Our community was built on the common memory of sliding down snow. But as communities evolve, so do their guiding beliefs. As our commitment to skiing and snowboarding has grownin the way that we move through the mountains, but also in how we fight for winterwe started asking: What tracks are we setting? What values are we leaving behind? Here’s where we started. What would y’all add? https://pat.ag/F20SnowStokeFB

Leah Cardamore Stokes has spent the last decade researching energy, climate and environmental politics. In her new book, "Short Circuiting Policy," she examines in particular the role public utilities have played in promoting climate denial and rolling back clean energy laws. The influence these companies wield can make it hard for individuals to make their voices heard on climate action, but she has ideas about how they still can. Growing up in Jackson Hole in a neighborhood full of kids under the age of 8 has it's perks. For the Navarro family, that means sharing cold-weather gear with other young families in town every season. Nearly two-year-old Maia learns to snowboard in a one-piece snow suit passed down from her four-year-old brother, Marcus, who got it from a boy down the street. And when she outgrows it, it will be shared again and again. Wear it, outgrow it, pass it down. https://pat.ag/F20KidsSnowFB
