Laurence Blake is a native of Virginia and attended the North Carolina School of the Arts. Upon graduation he was asked to join the North Carolina Dance Theater. After two seasons with NCDT, Laurence joined the Joffrey Ballet II. He was asked to join the Joffrey Ballet in the fall of 1977 and danced ballets by choreographers suc...h as Glen Tetley, John Cranko, Twyla Tharp, Sir Fredrick Ashton, Agnes DeMille, Gerald Arpino and Robert Joffrey. Upon moving to Los Angeles, he performed in several television shows including: Cheers, Hotel, Baryshnikov in Hollywood and Moonlighting. He has taught both nationally and internationally, and has been a member of the faculty of The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts since 1980, where he has taught ballet and contemporary dance technique, as well as dance composition. Laurence has choreographed work for Inland Pacific Ballet, California State University, Long Beach, and Loyola Marymount University. Friends of PDT! As I'm sure you know, non-profit performing arts organizations are facing unprecedented challenges due to Covid-19, and we are no exception. PDT had to cancel its spring season, including a planned live fundraiser. However, PDT is facing those challenges with enthusiasm and creativity! PDT conservatory students are midway through an entirely virtual summer intensive program, including a star-studded Master Class series. We are also busy planning a virtual Nutc...racker and looking ahead to a spring program to be performed in an outdoor setting to accommodate social distancing. In order to support all of these exciting programs and performances, PDT is holding an ONLINE AUCTION, which will take place from August 14-September 5. We are currently SEEKING DONATIONS for the online auction. Please help us out! Because of Covid-19, we are emphasizing virtual experiences such as music lessons, lectures, tutoring, etc., as well as handmade goods, and gift certificates.
