To our #PCCLancer community, we would like to officially announce that both the 2021 Winter Intersession and Spring semester will be mostly online, with limited face-to-face instruction. Making the decision to remain online in Spring 2021 in mid-September may seem a bit premature, but we are actually about a week or so behind some of our sister colleges who announced their decision once state Chancellor Eloy Oakley reached out to the CEOs to suggest making the decision and a...nnouncement soon so that students and faculty could prepare. He cited the CSU decision to remain online in Spring 2021 and the likely decision of the UC system to remain online as well. While there is nothing we would love more than seeing all of our students on campus, it still is not safe, and we do not have any indication that a vaccine will be available or widespread enough by the start of Spring to make a different decision at this point in time. We understand this announcement could come as a surprise to some, but we hope it helps provide clarity about PCC’s plans for the remainder of this academic year. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact your professor, academic dean, or counselor. Please stay safe and healthy Lancers!

To me, driving while Black is, at its core, driving while afraid. Driving While Black: Race, Space and Mobility in America is a new PBS documentary that premieres tonight. We're incredibly #PCCProud of #PCCProfessor Dr. Christopher West for his contributions to this eye-opening documentary that dissects how the advent of the automobile brought new mobility and freedom for African Americans but also exposed them to discrimination and deadly violence, and how that history resonates today. Watch the trailer now: https://www.pbs.org/show/driving-while-black/

Did you know that the sites that make up Pasadena City College exist on the Indigenous homelands of the Tongva people? Rather than celebrate the mistold legacy of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, many cities across America are swapping Columbus Day for Indigenous People’s Day instead. This is the 3rd year that Los Angeles is observing the holiday after a measure was passed in 2017. As inhabitants of Tongva lands, we respect and recognize that we are all guests on ...these lands. We encourage everyone to use this holiday as a way to learn more about Indigenous American histories. Happy Indigenous People’s Day #PCCLancers! Photo by Caitlin Hernandez for the PCC Courier. Other students would make fun of us, calling us musical prostitutes because we were not, in their mind, being true to whatever it meant to be a musician according to their principles. We were just trying to make a living and PCC helped in a lot of aspects, such as learning from [our music teacher] Truman Fisher and, at the same time, the social part of having met Dave. - Eddie Van Halen As we mourn the passing of one of our most esteemed #PCCAlum, Eddie Van Halen, we wanted to share a look back at Van Halen's beginnings here in Pasadena and at PCC. We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of one of PCC’s most famous #PCCAlum, Eddie Van Halen. Eddie and his brother Alex met singer David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony while all four were students here at PCC. As students they performed under the named Mammoth at many Associated Students of Pasadena City College events. In 1972, you could see them take the stage in Sexson Auditorium for only a suggested donation of $2! We hope Eddie's legacy inspires the next generation of backyard student musicians. Eddie, you will truly be missed. Rest In Peace.
