A week later and we are still feeling the virtual afterglow Seventy minutes of pure joy and pride as we watched all the students perform and share their learnings from the past six months, Executive Director Anamaria Labao-Cabato said. It was truly a showcase of happiness and excitement to take our 33rd Junior Concert onto the virtual stage! A huge thank you to our Artistic Staff and Media Team as they worked tireless hours creating curriculum, instruction, collaboratio...n, and tons of video editing and creativity. It was truly a labor of love We most especially thank the parents, grandparents, and families who have stuck with us all year. Amidst a pandemic, you committed your time and hours to support the kids when it came to our virtual classes, socially distanced costume pick-ups, the task of becoming videographers, and everything in between! We are thankful for you all. You all made history for #PASACAT by participating Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat! Mabuhay

September 7 a day engraved in PASACAT history The Filipino community of San Diego came together on Sunday, September 7, 1969 to pay tribute to San Diego’s 200th Anniversary. A three-hour cultural extravaganza was presented by a handful of organizations which was led by the largest association at the time: the Filipino Community Association of San Diego. Under the leadership of President Delfin Labao, and choreographers Paz Marquez Uro and Dr. Bill Yumul, 50 Filipino Ameri...can youth were taught dances of the Philippines. Over 3,000 people filled the historic Organ Pavilion, Balboa Park, and were mesmerized. A photo of that moment hit the front pages of the San Diego Union and San Diego Evening Tribune with an article written by the first Filipino on staff, Ernesto Flores Jr., who became the Founding Editor of The Filipino Press. The performance sparked a flame in the hearts of the community and PASACAT was born on May 23, 1970. Fast forward to the last decade reliving our roots On June 15, 2015, the city celebrated the Balboa Park Centennial 2015 Philippine-American Celebration. An exciting collaborative performance of Singkil took place with Barangay Dance Company, Kayamanan ng Lahi, Malaya Filipino American Dance Arts, Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts and Education Center & Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble. Fifty-one years later, Philippine dance continues to change the lives of Filipino-Americans all over the world and especially in PASACAT. Ten years ago today, we hosted the 2010 Philippine Dance Gathering and Workshops here in San Diego, CA. Our newly transformed studio was graced by Philippine dance companies from throughout the United States and the Philippines. The talent, knowledge, and love of culture filled the room with joyous smiles, laughter, and goofiness (something we wish we could share with everyone in these past few months). Looking back now, it’s amazing to see the same faces still continuing on the journey in discovering more about what we fell in love with all those years ago. I hope this fills a place in your hearts as it has for us in recovering these memories from our distant past.
